Their knowledge is outdated. That was true for NiMH but Li batteries are different, you can change and unplug any time. Also, the less you wait for the battery to become low for charging the better it is for life span. I read that on a battery manufacturer website.

I am Mary. It is not necessary that you should charge your phone battery whenever it is empty. I think L-ion Battery is good for all the kind of Instruments. It lasts long as my self experience says. I would say that do not follow any misguidance.

1. Never deliberately fully discharge your Lithium based cell!!! You can distroy it if it's discharged outside of the phone, for example with a bulb. The phone itself sees to that the cell is not fully discharged.
2. There is no need for any special treatment for new cells, no "breaking in" of a new cell.
3. Charge it whenever you feel like it, preferably often. It does not harm the cell if charged often.

5. The capacity of a Lithium based cell actually gradually increases. After about 5-10 charge/discharge cycles it has reached its full capacity.
6. Don't believe those manuals saying that you should fully drain the cell and the charge for 10-14 hours. IT IS NOT FOR LITHIUM CELLS, it's for alder types of batteries containing more than one cell. Lithium "batteries" has got only one cell, they're not really "batteries". Battery means that more cells have been connected inside the battery.

What I do is that I turn it off when I go to bed. This simple practice increased my battery life like anything.

Which is the best way to preserve your battery without any damage?
Actually, i have one spare battery BST-38 for my K850i thanks to playtime and rookwise.
Now i want to preserve the spare one. Currently, i am using this one and kept aside the one which i got with my K850i. Let me tell you that both batteries are genuine one-original.
What can i do?
