hey all. its shush again back from time ago, where i once had a vodafone branded k700. anyway the night mare was well and truly over when i managed to debrand it (jus look at my posts on this evr grwoing forum!)

well now i have another question,
my friend has a k700 branded to orange with the firmware file r2c*** wateva. i sed to her that theres a new one called r2aa***. she wants that one now, but wants to keep the orange branding for some reason (maybe cos it has the shortcut thing and its orange) and also, its cos it is supposed to be free according to the help in the toal server program. any way, what im asking is: can it be done? can i just update the firmware and leave the costumizations and languages alone? and also, will it lose any user data? i really need to ask people who have expereinced it, cos i want it updated (the icons are so slow compared to mine) but dont want to pay for it. the help sed it can b done, but after looking at iamcrunchie's posts (he ses that u still need language and costumization files) i am not sure. please someone reply.
the phone has never been updated before, and this is the first time its going to happen but WITHOUT getting rid of the orange. jus an update to r2aa0003. (PS the shortcut thing is quite nice on the k700 u no. im beginning to think its better than the ones the original have. jus the icons are a let down).

yours sincerely...

@shush97

I'm afraid I don't have any experience of doing that, and I really wouldn't try it without an 'informed' opinion Maybe you could email someone from the total server team, or face off mobiles. Anyway... I just wanted to say that I think it probably would work, and you probably wouldn't have to pay. As far as I can tell, the Firmware Upgrade option in the software should just update the firmware and leave the customisations alone, like you say.

somersetdude,

Thanks for ur reply. I opened up the connector on my cable, but the white cable already appears to be connected to pin 7. The wires in my connector are as follows:

blue wire - pin 6
white wire - pin 7
green wire - pin 10
orange wire - pins 9 and 11

Does this seem correct to you? or maybe another wire has been connected wrong.

Thanks

teb1980,
Your wiring appears to be correct. Check the serial end the colours go Orange, Green, White, Blue.
Maybe worth putting tape over all the pins from 5 back to 1 in case something is touching?

Still have some MultiServer credits available at $8US/each, and I also have one 3-credit account for $21.

PM me if interested...

somersetdude,

I checked the serial end and that seems fine too.

Strangely, the same thing happens with my phone qute often when I connect it to a desktop charger I bought too (turns on, says "charging", makes a noise, then turns off in a continuous cycle). Im starting to think it could be some kind of bug in the phone which may well be fixed if I can get rid of the Orange crap and upgrade to the latest firmware - but without the unlock cable working I cant do that!

Thanks for ur help anyways.

I had the same issue. After uninstalling the com ports and letting windows install new drivers automaticly it worked (for me).

Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device manager
