I have found that leaving the phone switched off helps to avoid the rebooting problem.

My phone crashed again last night. Now it won't boot up. When I plug in the power cable keyboard lights up as well as the "blue ring of death" and the red battery indicator light on the power button. I'm attempting to charge it now so that I can reflash the firmware.

Anyway before this I was having a fair number of random reboots with R1EA031 firmware, so if you are experiencing this, you might consider doing a Master Reset and reflash before you end up in my boat.

I have found that if I go into the Bluetooth menu and select Powersave and turn that to ON, even though I very rarely have bluetooth on anyway, and keep the network on GSM only then I get 3 to 4 days battery life on 038. The Powersave mode in the bluetooth menu was set to OFF before.

Havent encountered any of the issues mentioned here, it has been pretty un eventful to this point. One this I did notice is that my phone is now picking up a 3g signal more times then not which was not there prior to flashing to latest. So unless AT&T added another tower somewhere closer to my location, then the other firmwares werent picking this feature up. Hope that made sense...lol

The "blue ring of death" is not new. Here is my post from awhile back describing what happened to me. I don't say it in the post but I remember the blue ring lighting up on the back.

ok so i planned on waiting to update my phone until the major firmware release, but my phone had a different plan. I looked at my calender and noticed some of the dates were not there, so I think "Strange". I reset it and now it won't turn on properly. It loads up but midway through the sony icon swirly graphic it stops, then every 10 seconds or so it shows my regular background and says its searching for a provider. It only shows this screen for a second then the screen goes black, does this repeatedly for a few minutes.

SO i thought i would try SEUS, it said i could update to 037, i thought why not. Download it, it loads it to the phone, then when i take out the battery and reset, what do you know. No difference. Still same problems. Now when i connect it to SEUS it still says i can update. And it goes through the whole process again.

Any ideas? As it goes now, i can't use my phone at all.

I had 029 Hong Kong firmware i think before and now i might 037 not really sure.

I live in the USA so there are no sony service centers here to go and have them take a look.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Geoffrey

So this isn't just a problem with the new firmware.

I eventually just used Davinci to reflash my firmware to 037, since then i've upgraded to 031 and have had no real issues. My battery life is still 2 to 3 days, like it has always been. With 031 my media player is finally fast enough to be usefull (still wouldn't mind it if it was faster). Had one restart i think, i can't remember what is was doing, but it wasn't that big a deal. The camera seems about the same, the only problem i ever have with pics is flash burn, and thats only when the flash sensor gets clogged with stuff.

Your blue ring of death is different from my blue ring of death

for us, our screen wouldn't even light up... it just stays black, & no way of shutting off the phone, the keypad and the blue ring lights up though

also, about the red led, i have it on my phone too, if you guys want to see it, just try charging the phone without the battery

@djoptical:

Yeah, that's my "blue ring of death" too. My phone is totally bricked.

the restarts are not FW dependent, this and their look and feel have been explainded before

@Plankgatan
Next time you want people to test and answer a question try to be more specific.

with R1EA031 I/WE can only go "right" in the camera meny !!
before we could go both right & left...(its no problem, just wondering if anyone else has it ?? )

@people
What he meant is what Buntoo said. On previous FW you could cycle thru the camera menu in a loop. Meaning that you could jump from the last option(Settings) to the first option(Shoot mode) and viceversa.
In the new FW you can no longer do that, but you can still go left and right, provided you are at the end or the beginning of the cycle.

I had never noticed this until now (thanks Plankgatan ), i believe it has to do with the fact that the settings menu pops up directly now, instead of giving you the option to edit or skip.

Would you consider this a bug? why? IMHO it is not.
