Now if the N82 specs are correct it could be the real challenger to Sofia.

Didn't MR say that? I knew it from him.

the price tag will be very different, hence appealing to different crowds
(look how low K800 could go, originally it was planned to be at the s700i price point when it's out, but with n73 round the corner, the decided to slash prices)
given how the N95 pics look now, i doubt nokia could really fix those over-processed pics (oil painted faces, anyone?)

Bodum, look at mobile reviews nokia N95 review, last paragraph.
xumdeo, do you know anything of Sofias camera quality? You seem confident that Nokia cant improve their photo quality enough for SEs offering? Its quite obvious anyhow but just saying.

I think u got it the other way round. If it is true then N82 is throne holder. Sofia will be a challenger. Well, as far as we know Sofia dont have WIFI, GPS and VGA 30fps video recording. That's a real handicap for the challenger Sofia.

Anyone of the few here that can't afford high end phones and isn't lucky enough to live in a country where you can get phones on contract want to start a petition for a T550? A better K550.

i only don't have the confidence that Nokia will forgo the over-processing-good-looking-to-amature-eyes strategy for their high end camera phones, which in my opinion is bad, because it defeats the purpose of using a CZ lens... you're gonna sharpen anyway and wipe up the noise you think is noise, a better lens won't make much difference (if it's really any better, a CZ-branded plastic lens coming from the same nonCZ factories). the problem is not only the software, but the inferior sensor (toshiba CMOS) that they're trying to redeem. unless they change their source (i doubt Sharp or Olympus have the production capacity to serve them), i'm not confident that the pic quality on N8x will be any better than N95 (w/o xenon)
I'm not too worried with the flash, I don't believe that they have "mediocre" engineers, in fact people do jump between the 2 companies
as for the Sofia's camera quality, I know enough to be confident that it is a lot better than the N95 even minus the xenon flash, not to amature eyes.

Most of the consumers don't bother about it, anyway. What matters to them is that it has everything that they want.
Time of release to the market could influence their decision of which phone to buy.

It is true that untill now SE has dissapointed us in terms of high-end devices this year. P1 is nothing so special. If you look at features you will see that there is nothing new to be excited about. Even WiFi is only of b type. SE seems that is not really interesting in this area of market as it used to be in the past. Rumored Sofia is just a rumour. Untill now no spy pic or characteristics have been shown.
SE needs to do something otherwise I am afraid that they will lose a very significant portion of buyers who are interested for high-spec devices. SE doesn't need to fight NOKIA face-by-face. They have prooven that if they want to give something special they can do it. If rumour for September annouincement of Sophia is true then it should pack a lot of edge specs like VGA Recording (30 fps), 2,4 inch lcd, stereo speaker etc.
I like SE very much and I prefer them instead of NOKIA Symbian. But SE seems not be interested in keeping its fans....
Let's hope that the next announcement won't be very far away and will only have high-end devices....

The N82 has

style / proportions written all over it. Although, imitation is the finests form of flattery.
