The Reserve Bank uses a heavily armed police escort when they deliver money to depots around the country...Streets are closed off and those policement look as if they'll find any excuse to shoot someone with an R5 up the posterior.

Eish I am not upto date with this.
But I agree with you. The only reason I have the contract now is because of a free fone. Without the free fone, no.
But maybe they will structure the product is some way.

If they launch a new service, tell subscribers that you'll only be able to use this service with a new phone. Right now we have people walking around with 3G phones not having ever made a videocall or downloaded a audio and video clips...all because "the phone was free and I was due for a for an upgrade".
I don't say do away with contracts but they should be shortened to 12 months, there should be no handset subsidies which instead should go to lowering the price of calls and data rates...
For those wishing to get contracts they should have one flat rate for unlimited GPRS and calls on the same network could be charged a flat rate after certain hours as is the case in the US...but I doubt this will ever happen because networks are by their nature greedy.

Shorten to 12 months with no handset subsidies?
People want the phones more than the free minutes imo.

If you want a top-of-the-range phone why not just buy it and get the benefits of lower call and data rates?

Weekender packages are very popular and they often offer very high spec phones... I doubt weekender customers want to pay R3000+ for a W800 if they can pay R135pm and get it free with another high spec upgrade in another 20 months.
Maybe im wrong and if things go icasas way, we'll see how it pans out.

Talking about used features on the fones. The problem is in both users and SPs.
First is most people see the fone as the status symbol. Not as a tool/device.
And I hate the way marketing works. With an example of the Vlive marketing, they alway act like it a phone specific thing while anyfone can browse that vlive portal, there is no need put all those menu items on the phone. One bookmark and the right connection setting can do just fine.
One more thing did anyone heard anything about the earth quake / shake in the southern africa ?
A friend from Durban say they were vacated at 12H00 AM because their biulding was shaking????

@bongzino: I'm not going to diss Vodafone Live too much as in the past because it's quite useful, I agree though that Vodacom were naughty when they said it could only be accessed from certain handsets.
Heard about the earthquake this morning but no death and destruction so it wasn't big news...apart from the fact that some people were shook up last night.

i dont mind a 12 month contract in order to get the phone.
