Yes, as to what chips the phones have who knows, I assume the P990I and N93 have the top range media chips due to there prices, but no clue as to the others. As the majority of them are made by ATI and Nvidia then they'll be like PC graphics, getting more advanced every week so both phones are probably already out of date
The sooner they improve the power consumption and get them into lower range phones the better IMO as they games on these phones look great.

I wouldn't touch agile messenger just yet as all versions seem to suck ram and cause crashes in all the new devices just now.

Well.. since you can't use it after upgrading the firmware thats a god tip! Lol..

I use Jimm right now to run ICQ.. works ok.. It demand some ram and I can't run more then 2 other apps at the same time.. and not even that if I have had the phone on for a day.

By the way... the version of jimm that I use isn't "approved" or anything.. No problem in installing and the only problem is that I have to accept for it to use the internetconnection when connecting.

@masseur - I don't think it is that unreasonable to expect some serious gains in RAM in UIQ3. Afterall if Nokia have suddenly been able to find another 5MB in their S60v3 implementation after all this time there is no reason why SE/UIQ can't do something similar. The N93 hardware wise has little different from the rest of the N-series S60v3 line.

As for the 3D acceleration on the P990i/M600i it is actually a PowerVR implementation built into the main Philips (now NXP) Nexperia processor. The W900i used an nVidia 4800 solution.
Not sure what the N93 uses although I think it is either an ATI or nVidia solution.

Hi Apolla and Sl33pyh33ad,
I really didn't want to get into a my chips bigger and faster than your discussion but your inaccuracies have forced me.

The N93, P990 and M600 all use 3D Graphics chips but the P990 and M600 use the light version of the chip.

The N93 uses a Texas Instruments OMAP2420 with fully programmable VPG vertex processor core FPU(floating point unit) and an ARM11 processor.

The P990 and M600 use the light version GPU with an ARM9 processor with a Phillips Nexperia chip PNX4008 chip and whilst this is a powerful chip it is inferior to the Ti's OMAP2420 and is why the N93 supports 640x480 @30fps and the SE units don't.

So for now the chip and 3D graphics set up in the N93 is in fact superior to those used in the SE products. But who knows what is coming next and when.

Whilst i don't pretend to fully understand all the above information i can only say that correctly converted material on the N93 suffers from no stuttering or crashes even with the film Kill Bills complex colours and detail everything is rendered as it should be truly amazing quality IMO and easily matches the quality of the PSP if some what smaller to be honest it blew me away and i have owned a PSP and watched Kill Bill on it and that is an honest comparison.

Marc
Edited to correct chip number to 4008 sorry for the typo error

Regarding a reply to an earlier post I made.
You'll find that alot of network operators have begun to work fairly closely with video game companies to see what features etc they can implement/share/etc.
My auntie does PR for Microsoft. And she was telling me to prepare for some pleasant changes regarding gaming culture and how it'll become an ever more social thing. A method of delivery being mobile phones.

Thankfully after reading subsequent posts I'm getting the impression that things don't have to be signed to work on the p990. But I've got to side with masseur on the view that if uiq 3 has been developed for so long then it's going to be very suprising indeed if they manage to squeeze more ram out for ppl to use. Tbh I reckon it's to make the thought of upgrading much more appealing when the p990's sucsessor is announced. If I do get the phone I'll prolly get an mp3 player like an ipod or something aswell.

@Dogmann - I don't think anyone was debating whether SE's or Nokia's N93 3D graphics were better or not.

I was well aware from that the N93 is vastly superior to just about everything else right now as far as 3D fill rates are concerned, but then its primary purpose is as an imaging device afterall.

(incidently its the PNX4008 in the M600i and P990i )

Why? Most people who have an ear for music are very impressed with the music reproduction of the M600 and P990 - I am, and I spend more money on my hifi than on my gadgets (!) and I really impressed with the the way the P990 presents a '3D' sound stage, separates insrtuments, reproduces bass and symbals. Also you have the option of 8GB memory card, which will get cheaper in the next 2 months. Honest try to get a listen to the P990 with say the Sennheiser PX-100s.
