You might just change your mind once you listen to the quality of p990's music player (either via wired headset or bt stereo headset}

@vicelord

you might find SE release a media smartphone like the Nokia N93 so you may not need to wait for a P990 successor - I think is very likely.

@dogmann
I can't believe your comparing a N93 to a PSP, the PSP has THE best screen of any mobile device at the moment (Although the new Archos player looks better) as regarded by all reviews and users including me. The N93 hasn't got the screen to match it but it's impressive your so impressed by it.
I'm sure we could argue all day long about the better graphics chip, but I assume that because of the llooonnnngggg delay the 990 has had that the N93 is bound to have a newer and thus better chip in it.
Interesting to see that neither has an ATI or Nvidia solution in it.
The 4008 chip is also the reason for the great sound I see after reading it's info. If they out source the suppliers of there media chips then the sound can only get even better I imagine.

Forgot to mention, the guy that posts on behalf of expansys on it's forums said ages ago that he was told a Cybershot P990I will be launched next year sometime. They'll no doubt improve the memory then. He also said some SE told him of some interesting developments in the Cybershot range comming out but wasn't allowed to say what they were.

Why? Most people who have an ear for music are very impressed with the music reproduction of the M600 and P990 - I am, and I spend more money on my hifi than on my gadgets (!) and I really impressed with the the way the P990 presents a '3D' sound stage, separates insrtuments, reproduces bass and symbals. Also you have the option of 8GB memory card, which will get cheaper in the next 2 months. Honest try to get a listen to the P990 with say the Sennheiser PX-100s.

Have got to agree with Jah. I bought the HBH-DS970 based on his and other peoples recomendations for use with the P990i and I am 110% impressed - it sounds better than the A2DP output from my PC with a Creative X-Fi sound card in it, and compared to the A2DP on the HTC TyTN (which is pretty rough unless you tweak the quality settings after which it consistently stutters) there really is no contest at all. You can even use the WiFi and the A2DP together quite happily on the P990i - something which you can't easily do with other devices like the TyTN.

I would perhaps like a little more volume from the P990i (and tweaking the equaliser to bost levels is not an option IMO), but then quality is far better than quantity as far as I'm concerned.

Guy's I'm sure the p990 would slaughter most other portable devices in terms of sound quality. But the reason I said that I'd get a seperate device is the assumption that if i was playing music or watching vids etc then I'd be using atleast one application that the p990 would rahter not like to handle.
It's purely because of the ram issue.
It's worrying me to the extent that I'm looking into upgrading my vaio to the latest ultraportable version and getting something like the k800i.
There are many times during my average day when I can't afford for my email/message collector to screw up and I have to account for it.

Hi Apolla,
I wasn't comparing them directly but i owned a PSP and sold it because i couldn't be bothered to lug it round with me the whole time. I think it was Jah who said he can't see the point in trying to watch a film on a smartphone/PDA and i was merely starting my opinion on this.

Have you actually seen a film properly encoded on a N93? I have and this why i have made my comment. I can accomplish everything you can with a PSP and smartphone with just my N93 and everyone i have shown a film to has also remarked on the quality. Yes the screen is smaller but then the unit is also smaller and more comfortable to hold and view and i haven't even listened to the sound via the headphone converter with my Sony headphones yet.

As everyone gets so annoyed with people criticizing the P990 when they haven't seen or used it i think we should apply the same principle here. I have had no crashes or freezes but then i haven't added any 3rd party apps which i feel is usually the cause of the problems people see, the reason is i don't actually need any.

I have also now set up the Home Media Server and Wlan both were easy to do and work perfectly. This may not be the ideal smartphone for all but for me and my needs it does everything i want and does it well. I know for me i bought the right unit and am very happy with my purchase just awaiting the update to go live to gain another nearly 6mb of Ram.

Marc

After much wait I finally got the coveted P990! The excitement of owning the phone has taken a big hit, however. I cannot see half of the menu items including control panel in the tools menu (tool menu has only operator services icon, connection manager, stop watch, and timer ... thats it). I hope someone can help me so that I can atleast hard reset the phone and see if rest of the items appear. The phone has the latest version of software and is good only for making phone calls. Unfortunately the phone was imported and there is no service center where I live. It is an unlocked phone. I hope some knowledgable person can help me out and am not stuck with a dud . THANKS!!

Not meaning to be patronising, but is this in Flip Closed mode? Because many of the programs are rendered invisible unless you use Flip Open mode...
