The question is whether the tech in this patent can be accomplished with LCD displays, or will it have to be OLED? We already know transparent OLED displays exist, but how common are transparent LCDs?
Damnit, I REALLY want the phablet now. ZL isn't due to launch in Canada until next month or so, so that just means a 3 month wait until the phablet launch. I wonder how quickly North America will see it though. One thing I do hope is that the phablet has better support for North American LTE bands as the Z and ZL only support 1 of the 2 LTE bands my provider uses.
I don't mind the smaller megapixel camera of the phablet, so long as it takes quality images. Do hope it is also waterproof and has a shutter button though.

Sony has its own patents for wireless charging, but who knows how far along those are in development

Sony already has that patent, but we dont really know when they introduce that tech to the market yet
But with this tech from Qualcomm, I hope they already incorporated it into the S800 chip

lol, I can see that smart eye tech being useless and annoying. Assuming it's actually accurate enough to work properly, what if I begin reading something, my eyes dart down to the bottom of the screen or I look at something just below my phone? Will it think it's time to scroll?
Anyways, I think it's just a feature that's baesd on such an inconsistent thing as eye movements that it'll flop, and hard.

Who knows about what new innovations they will come up with? I figure they will continue to improve camera performance and hopefully integrate more software and hardware from their camera division. Japan Display will help to provide Sony with quality screens. Sony will continue to provide stunningly beautiful phone deisgns. Battery tech will hopefully improve. I do hope that battery tech involving graphene comes along quickly enough to allow for ultra fast charging and relatively massive capacities compared to current stuff. Sony seems to be involved in the whole graphene world, so there's hope there.
I personally want to see solar panel tech in cell phones - it can be done where there's just a thin, transparent film that can collect energy. You never see the film and Sony could put this both on the front and back of the phone to help extend the daily battery life and time between full charges. Apparently graphene also has the potential for much more efficient solar panels, compared to current tech, so that's exciting stuff.
If Sonys patent for a stylus is true, then it'll be innovative in that it'll be a stylus with force feedback abilities. I hope that one day gets added to a tablet.
I'm sure they'll have some more tricks up their sleeves, but we'll have to wait and see. I am a bit more interested in where Sony will go after 2014. How much of their smartphone portfolio will remain Android? We already know they're looking at Firefox OS at least for some low end handsets. I'm hopeful to eventually see Vita OS smartphones too, or at least SOME way to get Vita games on Android.
Considering how relatively thin these newer phones are, I would also like to see Sony come out with slider gamepad accessories for their phones, especially if Vita games do eventually make it to their phones.

You will anyways hold your phone why would you need your eyes to control your scrolling lol your fingers are attatched to your phone and it can do the job
