To all proponents of cdma, I hope u'll understand my scepticism and lack of confidence in Nigerian PTO's.
I have lost a lot of money to them, and I'm still smarting from the experience. I still have my multilinks nortel box which cost me N157,000 in 1998 (it stopped working eons ago), an abandoned nitel line I paid N104,000 for in 1999, A GTE line that has not worked in 11 months and cost me N67,000 in 2000 and two intercellular lines which I hardly use these days. On the contrary, I'm finding it hard to decide which of my GSM lines to drop.
I'm not against the technology (cdma), but the management of that technology. I'm carefully observing starcomms, I may decide to opt for a mobile wireless cdma line as a data service alternative when gprs is no longer free.
But until then, I'm keeping my fingers wrapped around my gsm phone.

Just the same, things are changing, in part because of the competition that the GSM boys created.
As an unbiased user giving advice to someone considering CDMA data, my experience plus general feedback from others is that while CDMA internet access works well most of the time (and delivers faster speed on the whole), one GPRS internet network out-performs them in stability and reliability: GloMobile. MTN, Vee & Mtel GPRS are crap in comparison.
BTW, most Starcomms data users will find it near impossible to send out mails via POP/IMAP because Starcomm's mail servers appear to have been blacklisted by gazillions of service providers.

Yes aya, I noticed that bit with starcomms internet. I also noticed it on Intercellular sometime in November, but that problem seems to have been sorted out. On the instability of cdma data service, its to be expected, and I can live with that, as the advantage of unlimited downloads outweighs the gprs option. Undoubtedly, glo gprs is most reliable, but you have to take into consideration the fact that they deployed first, and so already know what to do, coupled with their service not being free, it is bound to be less congested.
Lets do this comparism again in say four months, when MTN and Vmobile have settled down.
But that won't stop me from saying that Vmobile gprs right now is trash. They are my favorite network, but their gprs is baaaaad.
