What do you mean 'Even if it's from Apple'? Have you forgotten Android is essentially an iOS rip off? If it wasn't for APple in the first place this thread would probably be wondering what the next UIQ or Symbian device coming out is.

^^^

Stop this rip off thing, it might inspired something as all OS's inspires something from each other, Android was a company founded in 2003, Google bought it in 2005 it was in development since then... the world never heard of iOS before 2007 ( thought it wasn't called iOS by that time ).. but the world didn't know how iOS will look like till 2007 when it announces the first iPhone... of course Apple worked long time ago but we don't know since when, but we know that while Android was founded in 2003, bought by Google in 2005 and first announced in 2007 ( same as iPhone ) but launched officially in october 2008 when the first phone running it went to sale... so development was for at least 4-5 years before announcement/launch...

Android was announced just months a way from iOS, no way any company can rip an OS this fast, and after announcement Google and HTC worked on the first device which saw the light after nearly one year...

Why no body is saying iOS ripped Symbian or UIQ ? these were smartphone OS's or wasn't ? and iOS ripped of UIQ touch things ? no body is saying this...

Symbian, UIQ and might even Palm and Windows Mobile inspired Apple to start working on iOS, they took from this and this and make it better... and company that want's to make a better thing from the ground will work hard to make better things this is how iOS and Android both born... and this is how Microsoft decided to start from ground again... and What killed Symbian is that they worked hard to built it in the correct way and from ground to be what peoples liked...

Any one can make a product, but if they want to to be a success, then it should be unique and stands out in the crowd... iOS did that, Android did that and MS is trying to do so with Windows Phone... some might make a success and some might fail... it all depends on what they make in the beginning...

iOS in the first was very basic, but what saved it was it's speed and apps and touch features.. thought there was no basic features like MMS but that didn't stopped it from being a success as it was evolving with each update... even Android was very basic it even lacked bluetooth file transfer but again this didn't stopped it companies found solutions to some of it lacks and it evolved with time also...

NEWSSony: India our fastest-growing market

How do you see the sales of your mobile phones in India this year?

Mobile phones account for about 10-15% of our revenues. We expect sales of Xperia series to grow nearly three times next year and clock a revenue of Rs 3,500 crore.

Xperia Tipo is the cheapest phone from Sony that retails for around Rs 8,500. Do you have plans to go lower than this where phones like Nokia Asha series and Samsung Rex operate?

The Tipo will continue to be the entry-level phone from our stable and Sony does not have any plan to go below that at this moment.

Exactly! Apple has just had such a huge fanbase that doesn't even question anything Apple does and believe Apple is the first to invent everything. Just take a look at the patent portfolio Sony or Microsoft etc have in comparison to Apple, these companies have worked on and released a lot more innovated things than Apple but get bashed a lot more and are accused of never being innovative. Tablets and smartphones did exist before Apple came out with the iPhone and iPad, and the first gen of Apples devices aren't what I would call reliable. Android has come a long way considering how it was 3 years ago, so much that for many today be considered to have surpassed iOS in features and to have matched it in reliability.

To be fair, Erich Schmidt was a board member in Apple. Hence it was possible for android to completely get redesigned that soon. Android pre ios was like Blackberry. Moreover, when Erich Schmidt/Google were no longer part of Apple, they could not compete with iPad and we all know how honeycomb was. Even Eric admitted that they were totally unprepared for it.

just for your knowledge, a mobile phone takes at least 18 months journey to come to market. so what rip off are you talking about? and iOS is clearly inspired by Symbian. You must be new, but I clearly remember how applications were famous in Symbian.

Yes, this is initial Android device copy from BlackBerry

not before long Eric Schmidt see what Apple (Steve Jobs) already done, and implement to Google Nexus One and begin production line by HTC (after Sony refuse to do) and so do I Samsung steal hefty of Apple innovation.
