@dicky, have you used, FFMPEG? ive used that to rip dvd's to ipod and psp formats, its pretty quick and you have quite alot of control on the final file.

hello all,
I have just recently got a new mac and while having one of my first plays with it i accidentaly draged the big @ icon (see pic below) off my dock and deleted it. Now i can't pretend i even know what this icon does or if i need it but how do i get it back?
Cheers!

@WelshTom... I wouldn't worry about dragging the big @ off your dock... it is just a shortcut to

I (and work) always use Crucial. They have a good RAM selector so its difficult to buy the wrong type.
Their prices aren't bad, good quality and guaranteed to work in Macs, unlike some of the cheaper suppliers, eBay etc.

If you visit them via QuidCo, you get 7% discount.

Right - more newbe questions from me i'm affraid. This time about file management on macs. I have loads of photos all in seperate folders which i have copied over from my pc and stuck in the photos folder in mac HD. Now that bit is fine - same as my pc. However I thought iPhoto was apple's photo management tool a bit like windows picture viewer but better and with more photos. But when I add my photos to iPhoto to use this as my primary source of photo management and viewing it is creating a second copy of all the photos and storing them in an iPhoto folder on my HD. When you have like 10gb of photos this starts to become a problem - as it is now taking up 20gb of space on my 60gb HD. So how do people manage their photos on a mac.
And finally - deleting applications. Is it as simple as dragging them out of the apps folder and in to trash? Does this really fully remove the program and all it's components or am i leaving behind a load of files which are now clogging up my machine?
Cheers

Once you have added photos to iPhoto, you can safely backup the originals (onto CD/DVD), then delete them off your HD to free up the duplicated space.
If you have an additional (external) hard disk, or partition, you may like to move your iPhoto library onto it to save space on your boot drive.
Most (but not all) applications can be deleted by just dragging the apps icon (or enclosing folder) to the trash and emptying it. There is also most likely a preference file stored in ~/Libary/Preferences which you can also delete.
Some apps, (Microsoft, Adobe, Apple etc.) apps do install stuff in other places. Usually in the ~/Library/Application Support folder. So check in there too.
If you do a lot of installing and deleting, you may like to have a look at
AppZapper.
