Anyone tell me the newest firmware release for the Vodafone branded K850i?? Or where to get it??
I believe the only Vodafone UK firmware available at the minute is R1CA029 K850 1201-9789 VODAFONE UK/ BLUE which you can get using the DaVinci client, for tips on how to find/use davinci look
here.
Guys, who has a k850 with a relatively new build week, and can tell if there is any progress with the well known build quality issues?
Which build quality issues are you talking about? I've not heard anything of the sqeaky back cover or the dodgy lens cover since the very early weeks of release. I myself am on my 3rd K850 after my first one had the hardware issues and my second one had serious firmware issues.

Yes Ricky D, i'm talking about the squeeky back cover and the lens cover problems, and i've read somewhere about loose screen and malfunctioning buttons.. but that should be solved now then?.. i hope three has a pretty updated stock.
I'm in a dilemma, can't decide between the K850 today, or to wait for the W890 to be available. And the last thing i need is a poor working device.

The loose screen problem I've not seen or heard of but I have heard recent reports of the touch sensetive buttons not always responding and requiring the battery to be taken out to get them working again (a problem which has just hit me actually and I'm a bit annoyed about it). I don't know if SE have fixed this problem in newer releases or if it can be fixed at all. The W890 seems like it's going to be a good phone. It's picked up in the areas the W880 was severely lacking, but I think I'd still go for the K850 despite it's faults, but maybe I'm just wishing for an impossible dream.

Well my fw was 029, now i'm on 037 and the interface is different. Instead of looking like the original VF it now looks more like an 02 but with "OPER SPECIFIC" on it!!!!

Well, as I posted on this thread yesterday, there isn't any Vodafone 037 firmware yet afaik (at least for the UK). Where did you get your 037 firmware from? If you flashed it yourself I believe you may have flashed it wih something you weren't supposed to.

Alot of people are becoming confused with R1CA029 and R1CA037
R1CA029 is the first release of the firmware for the K850 to he Public on launch ( There are many firmwares before this one but were testing firmware only)
R1CA037 is not a major update but an important quick fix update.
Many peoples phone were starting not to switch on or had Java application problems.
R1CA037 was a script fix for Java to stop most of the phones getting returned as application and non boot phones.
R1CA037 also had a minor allignement in photo, flash and shutter problems However this wasnt a complete fix only a minor one.
R1CA037 had another quick fix regarding how it displayed HSDPA. R1CA029 only ever showed 3g even when you were stood in HSDPA network. R1CA037 fixed this by now showing H on the main screen
There is a major Firmware due out in late Jan 2008 / Early Feb 2008.
With major enhacements on the phone.
From what i understand that are being addressed are, compatibility, speed, camera, java, freezing, corruption and much more behind the scenes
Many people on here have commented regarding when they have updated the Voda handsets using SEUS, the VF customiseation has gone.
Orange had a simular problem with the K750, however SE did notice the fault and on the next firmware update the orange customisation returned. VF will be the same (Sorry to be the bearer of bad news)
(I beleive at present SE have now removed the VF update of SEUS to fix the issue)
The only way to trully decostomise your phone is to completely re-write the phones software
Hope the above helps

SE dont want to release something quick, then have to go back to the drawing board again when it doesnt work. So they are trying to get this one right.
Lets hope they do
