By the way, is there some documentation by Sony Ericsson about the "Stereo Widening" feature?

In some recordings (mainly older ones) Stereo Widening helps produce a clearer, broader sound. I've noticed that in 60's or 70's recordings, but also in a recent Stereolab album!

In other recordings (mainly new ones) it weakens the bass and makes the sound a tiny bit duller.

So, I have to always try it out before I listen to an album for the first time.

I got one yesterday. It was made in week28 but already there is a newer firmware available! I d/l the newer f/w earlier this morning and now rhe phone seems to run slower. Im on the Western Europe Generic f/w btw.
Is there a W890 firmware buds and overview thread yet? I had a quck look but could not find one.
Also, this side led that has been mentioned, is that the one next to the fastport connector?

Yes, it is. Up to now I never seen a real use of that First I think that it's a message / missed call indicator

I did the update today. I am on O2 UK and the FW is now R3DA026.

NOTE: Stay away from the update if you have got Gigs of music on your phone.

Theoretically the update shouldn't affect music on the memory but sadly saying that my hours of hours of music have been deleted. My W950 update never did this. Go for the update and you loose the music and vice versa. This is not good and I am shocked.

It did fix the orientation bug in my phone which in my opinion could have been fixed with a master resit before the update. Silly me

There is no luck for the side LED thingy and for the outer display to be used as standby.

In short I don't see any point in release of this update instead it has given me a headache of transfering the same music all over again. sigh

Would keep on posting if I notice anything new after the update.

I'm just backing everything up now, as i'm also going to do the update, Western European Generic.

I also find it stupid that i have to re-upload all my data afterwards though. Best option would have been to split the internal memory, and only have the update program affect the 'Phone' side. Oh well, will see what difference this update will make.

Well. I can report that not a lot seems to have changed! . I guess that its just a speed and stability update. FW version is now: R3DA028

Hopefully this should stop the random restarts, the only problem i've faced with this handset. Even though it would have been nice to have the LED have a function, or be able to set what the outer display defaults to.

We can live in hope!

OK!

After two days of the update;

I have noticed the battery life has gone better along with the speed and volume through the earphones of the player has increased but the phone has hanged two times during multitasking and I have to remove the battery. It wasn't a restart.

I'll see if the phone hangs again i'll do a master reset but I am afraid it will wipe out my music just like it did after the update. But if the problem persist I'll update it again. After all what else I can do.

I shouldn't have gone for the update in first place but atleast SE should release some release notes before the updates that what kind of bugs can be fixed and what improvement will it make. Shouldn't they?

Up to now, these are some slight bugs that I encounter:

- Random reboot. Hm, normal stuff, it's not often, around 1 or 2 times a week. But it always happen when I play some music, strange though.

- Sometimes the shortcut button is not working, this is often happens. To solve it just do a soft reset. The weird thing is the button is still responding in service menu.

- Manual equalizer cannot be saved, found in early firmware of W910 and K850.

That's it, hope the next firmware solves it
