Well why not? A newbie could always use some pointers from more experienced gun owners.

I was told that although the PT24/7 is glock-like (having no exposed hammer), it has a manual safety similar to those of 1911 guns. Geez...the waiting time is killing me!

That's really goood to hear. I just hope we're from the same country.

Basically, the Taurus PT 24/7 pistol is Taurus' answer to the Glock and Springfield XD pistols. The Taurus 24/7 is a polymer-framed, double-action only (DAO), striker-fired pistol with utilitarian lines. Unlike the Glock and Springfield XD pistols, however, the 24/7 features a frame-mounted, sweep-down manual safety (1911-style) on the left side of the frame. This is the only type of manual safety, except for Heckler & Koch's (HK) squeeze-cock frontstrap featured on their P7 series pistols. To top it all off, the gun comes with a tactical light rail. Yeah, so ill be pretty excited to own one like that too.

Just be very careful in handling such a gun since you may not be able to see if it is loaded/ cocked or not.
Be very wary of the 4 laws of safety..

Aztec,
here's a visual comparison of the first and second generation FN-Five-seveN that you were asking. wow looks like bibilhin mo na yung nakita mo sa GunShow, huh?

i prefer the older, odder-looking, rounded trigger-guard, first gen version. but hey.... lower the price and i'd take home any version!

exactly my point scotsboy..

someone a wee while ago said that they would rather have a gun to defend themselver agaisnt someone else that had a gun... my point was that ALL guns would be melted down.. therefore the the chances of you meetiing someone else with a gun would be 0.

fatreg

hahaha.. that would be nice... maybe you could pass a law like that to make the world a better place. Oh and for your info, it wouldnt be safe to melt ALL guns in the world because that would really be a problem with the environment.. But then again, i would rather meet a potential criminal with me carrying a gun rather than with a stick.

Matanglawin,
welcome to this thread! hope to see you more often here.

Thanks boysaint! It's a funny thing that I discovered this site because of my new found interest in guns...although I also own a SE mobile phone.

Thanks for the tip aztec. I'll surely bear that in mind...being new to guns and all things related to it. The one I got is not the DAO model but the new PRO SA/DA model. With regards to knowing whether the gun is loaded or not...I saw in the Taurus website that the PT24/7 has a red-colored "loaded chamber" indicator that protrudes near the top right portion of the slide. I have to see this for myself when the unit arrives.

Way back in the 70's, Pres. Marcos declared martial law in the Philippines and banned guns in the whole country. Unfortunately, it simply didn't work because criminals and terrorists kept their guns. Worse, only the law abiding people gave up their guns. It must have been a total nightmare to walk the streets of Sulu at night and come face to face with a gun-totting bogey. So much for gun ban.

Taurus 24/7: If it is anything like the Taurus Milleneum, then the trigger may be just as soft-sprung. It will have a long and soft trigger pull with an almost un-noticeable break. Some shooters would like a noticeable break wherein you could feel when the striker is about to come forward to strike the round. But then again, practice, lots of practice, can make you comfortable with this trigger.
The only real problem we've ever had with the Milleneum was the cleaning. Dismantling the gun was easy. After we've cleaned the barrel, we found out later that you need 3 hands to re-assemble the gun. Maybe, you could find a way to get over this problem. Or maybe Taurus had already solved this problem with the newer 24/7. With the Milleneum, someone has to hold the frame, another to hold the barrel down, and another to insert the slide into the frame. Otherwise, the barrel will slide together with the slide and not latch onto the barrel tilting notch.

The Millenium could also pinch your little finger if you clasp the grip too tight between the pistol grip base and the magazine base the way the KelTech does. There is a noticeable movement of the magazine inside the pistol grip although this does not seem to affect feeding of the round.

boysaint: haven't seen a red SE K610i in the market but I've seen a K618.
