As always Jools - you are the man! That AppZapper looks well worth taking a look at. I have done A LOT of installing and uninstalling - as i have been trying and testing almost everything i can get my hands on in order to try and get my system running in a way that is most efficient for my personal requirements. As a result I am considering doing a fresh install now that I have found a setup and decided on the apps I wish to use. It is good to know I can use my external HD to store the iPhoto library. On that note my external HD was formatted and all the files copied onto it using my PC (windows XP). Now apart from the fact I have a few unecessary files on the HD when i open it with my macbook are there any other problems i am likely to encounter because it was setup using a PC - should i be looking to reformat the external HD and start over?
thanks again,
Tom

More questions!
I have installed windows XP using bootcamp. I now have a second HD icon on my desktop for the windows partition. Can I remove this from my desktop? Also the windows partition is labelled as "No Name" but i would like to name it "Windows XP" but i can't seem to find a way to do this?! And finally I don't get the bootcamp screen at startup instead it boots straight into OS X rather than giving me the two HD icons and choosing. I have to go into startup prefferences if i want to use XP and the same in xp if i then want to use OS X! Ohh and one more question if I start over and reinstall OS X will that leave my windows partition as it is - as i don't really want to reinstall windows!
Thanks,
Tom

1) If you are never going to use your external HD on Windows again, reformat it to Mac format as the Mac disk format is better and more efficient. If you want to use the HD on Mac & PC, leave it in PC format.
2) If you can't rename the 'NO NAME' volume in the Finder, you may have to rename it in Windows. If you drag the Windows volume to the Trash, it should just un-mount it. Obviously, once it is unmounted you won't be able to copy files back and forth until you re-mount it, or reboot.
3) You can switch between Windows XP and Mac OS X by holding down the Option (Alt) key when you start up the computer.
4) I've never actually used Bootcamp, (not got an MacIntel yet), but as the Windows partition is separate to the Mac one, unless you completely reformat, and repartition, it shouldn't overwrite the Windows partition. When you boot up from the Mac OS X Install DVD just choose your existing Mac partition.

bumpage!
in addition to the above post..
now im talking fonts!
i've managed to acquire lots of fonts that adobe sell.. problem is they are all *.pfb and *.pfa they dont work on a mac! they appear to be PostScript Type 1 fonts the b file relates to the screen font and the a relates to the printing font!
is there anyway to convert them to a format that my mac will know?
cheers

Hi,
A very simple (and possibly stupid) question from me. One thing I really miss from windows is the 'show desktop' button on the taskbar. Is there a similar easy way to minimize all open windows and show the desktop in OS X?
Thanks,
Tom

@ Tom
Hit F11.
@ Fatreg
In relation to your xvid probs in quicktime...what files do you have in /library/quicktime/ as that is where any decoder component files are kept.
