Guy H, I think you should definitely update.
After the last update since the 10th 0f April most of the problems I had ( and I had a lot) are gone. Not even one crash during incoming calls or restarts for any reason. I can have video calls now though sometimes with problems with my camera( the small picture which shows me keeps rotating).
WiFi signal is stronger even though I never had problems with it. Actually WiFi was the one thing which always worked perfect.
I have some problems with the MMS but I am not sure it is the phone and not the provider or the SIM card.
It seems that all these theories about formatting the disk and not restoring old back ups are not always correct. This time I restored a previous back up and I don't have any of the previous problems. It was the messed up firmware, which created all kinds of problems not only for me but for a lot of other people I know.
I agree with rossyrox the time I have spent had to spend re-configuring, flashing and reading forums about the P990i is unbelievable.

I have to say that if one has no problems with the former R4, and NEEDS the alarm work correctly, no need to flash to this R5 now.
My phone was okay before and just to see this progress bar and transition off, my alarm was worth much more when it worked.
With the last fw, SE immediately released a newer fw right after like a few hours. Now it would have been necessary just for the alarm.
I found now my phone has the first serious problem. LOW alarm signal and then it won't shut off. I have to deselect the alarm several times to make it stop and half of the time the green light KEEPS on flashing until restart.
If techs at SE did not find this bug, then how can we wonder the miss all the others....

I disagree. The only problem I have with the latest fw is due to restoring settings from previous fw, I can't add new stations to previously empty locations in the FM radio. The backup/restore in PCSuite works slightly better than before but there is still a lot of work to be done.
I will live with that as I just don't want to spend a couple of days reconfiguring my phone but when R6 comes it will definitely be a clean slate.

Ok, I'm confused now.
I need advise.
Should I upgrade from R4 to R5 or just wait to R6?
With current R4, my phone is ok.
I eagerly want to upgrade to R5, but after reading some comments in this forum stating that alarm volume is LOW in R5.. I reconsider my decision.
Please advise.
Thanks.

For me is seems to work always with the backups. I always restore all and never have had any bad experience.
I just keep always updated Updates from the newer firmwares. But I guess if one has problems anything that helps is welcome.
As I mentioned before, my phone had never had bad problems, just this alarm crap now.
As for the restore, the third party apps never restore, only the advanced device lock restores BUT needs always new activation.
I think the 3rd party apps don't get restored on purpose. Might be an issue of licensing and activation.

Man, that last part of your alarm problem is not normal - the fact it does not stop! Its not a bug, but a bad flash problem

I flashed and reflashed and reformatted and so on... several times, with and without restore. Same thing, LOW alarm and it stays selected even when unlesected for 2-3 times before alarms are off again. And half the time, the green light keeps on flashing.
I had nothing of that sort all through the earlier firmwares.

Lets get one thing straight here:
SE still needs to work on the bugs of the alarm and flight mode systems!
I am experiencing too problems with the alarm and with the phone sometimes appearing to be on while in reality its off!!
Everybody calls me and says your phone is outta coverage area where in reality, its the damn phone that stopped responding!! Another indication to this, is that the phone doesn't update battery status correctly while 'hanged' up without response!! This is very closely related to flight mode (the moment I start it, all starts after some time, and even without flight mode, it happens as illustrated above!)
I mentioned earlier, I only have Psiloc Arabic Localization and SMP on my phone, but the problem is still here
And yes...I flashed the phone bizzilion times, so no one ask me please for a re-flash, because I believe if the phone was badly flashed, it won't work good in the first place.
Now what?!

...There is one "Automatic keylock" under Security > Locks in the Control Panel, and that one only works when the flip is closed.
The other one, "Automatic input lock" is found under Device > Screensaver in the Control Panel, amd that one is only for Flip Open/Off. I guess you're just using one of the two...
I did not know the second one existed?
