@malbry, regarding H264 playback:

So far SE only said "it should be supported". More info is expected that I will share here when available.

In the meantime, it would be useful to have a small and simple H264 file which is confirmed to be playable with any H264-compliant player, for testing purposes.

By all accounts the camera in the E90 is also excellent so no advantage to either device here either.

i think i have to disagree here, most of the time when i saw the sample shots from the E90 it's similar to the ones in 7390 by which the autofocus does not work as reliable as in P1's prototype samples especially on text shots in both infinite and macro shots. not to mention P1 has two LED flashes to add more lighting on night shots. while E90 has only one. one thing i have noticed also on E90 is that the light is weak when capturing low lights whereas P1 demo unit's LED flash was fixed and is boost to the brightest setting. also the sensor size and focal length of the E90 is smaller than P1 affecting dynamic range optimization which favors the P1.

Well then maybe you should take a gander over here ....

And go through ALL the pages reading checking the video's and the FLASH that you say elsewhere showed weak. 3 ppl in that thread have PRODUCTION units! shipped from Nokia USA!

Video playback - something I hope the P1i can match!

We'll see how the battle of the Titans fairs this time around.

Lol closed bathroom... it's clear that in the pic's upper corners there is a different light lines, not from the flash.. Yes, "TOtal darkness" indeed!.. + Any phone with a flash will make much lighter pic when shooting in front of a huge looking-glass...! Also i'm sure there will be not too many ppl with such a taste - huge phone(PC...), heavy and so ungly desighned..+super plastic looking..+Pc without touchpanel.. yep, great.. Ofcourse everything is up to the person's taste.. And that's deffinetly not main taste..

Prom1 np, everything is clear

Ok people stop bickering.....there are people whom love Nokia and there are people whom prefer SE......For me I love both and have owned a number of both.

Now my question is when is the P1 going to be released? If it's going to be in end of Aug or early Sept, than I'm going to get an E90 to tie me over for the time being.

PCman is not bickering. He's clearly stating what I've missed. He's entitled to his opinion of the E90 as well.

The use & styling of plastics I don't prefer either; but its the underlying hardware that is featured. I'm worried that the P1i, IS the phone for me BUT I don't want to miss out on minimum QVGA video recording @ 30fps. With no mention of this feature or playback; I'm worried.

Competition is great for everyone! I'd like a full review comparo of these Titans head to head. Kinda like watching WWF Wrestling of old: Andre The Giant vs Hulk Hogan on youth serum going at it in their prime.

Agreed....he's entitled to his opinion, but I was just reading through this whole forum and people sounded like they were bickering that's my opinion as well, but I could be wrong.

My only concern of the P1i is the lack of 850mhz and edge......I'm not a big video recording guy and I know the camera will be nice as SE cameras are usually good. I love the size, but hopefully it won't have as many software problems as the P990i.

Yep, after your previous post I was just writing there is no 850mhz in P1.. unuseable in USA and some other counties..

Just as P1, E90 has it's pros and cons.. and as it happens always, the final live touch from the buyer is the final word+ofcourse if he is more SE fan than Nokia and the oposite, it's clear point of prv taste.. We can only say that both P1 and E90 are not perfect.. Even not close to perfect, cause perfect means everything, and everything is non-limited "thing".. It's quite hard to imagine that no limitation, but it's true and proven by many

And I, as one of the buyers, can take this or this model.. it's normal But the end-sells are the life-support for the producer.. "he" work for us better=>more of us pay him for this..

So we should bicker only to the producers.. To move more their asses and show us something closer to our perfect idea for the current technology moment.

I went to a big phonestore in Amsterdam today to check if they already have some info on the P1i (release date, price, etc)... and to my surprise it was already in their system and cash counter. A release date was still on "coming soon", but normally this means within a month or so... But the most surprising part was the price.... €549! They (almost) never change the prices afterwards. That's very acceptable in my opinion, I expected something in the €650 range.

Lol, thats a good new, especially for the price! I'm also optimist cause the w960 will be started only 2 months after P1, and both are similar.. For a start price this is great 540euro..
deuxani this price is incl. VAT or excl.? I hope it's incl.VAT(and p.s in your country how big is the VAT? 20% as here?)

Ok...I've decided to hold off on buying the E90 and wait for the P1 instead......I just hope it comes out earlier rather than later. I was so close on pulling the trigger on the E90, but just couldn't do it because of price and size.

CTI NYC has it preorder for $610 USD, which is not bad at all considering E90 is still around $1000.

@tkao2025

The difference in price reflects the difference in what you are getting P1 old 208mhz processor and lite graphics chip as opposed to a 330mhz and full graphics, no HSDPA, No VGA video recording, no big screen no full qwerty etc etc. One is merely fitted with an additional 128mb RAM and a Camera otherwise all it's spec's are old. The other runs the most powerful processor seen in a Symbian device and all the most up to date technology has tons of free apps both from Nokia and developers and has already new firmware available before it is even has been released in all territories, who knows if and when SE will release firmware for the P1 maybe every 2 months again if you are lucky or they may end up not releasing any.

Don't get me wrong every one is free to decide which device they want but they really can't be compared as a like for like as they are not even close. Personally when buying a device i want the latest and best i can get not just rehashed and redressed old stuff.
