thinking back on it I had a problem with an older version when I got a call in the middle of a game. When the call was over, I switched to my app picker and the background was the opening screen from Soldier Ants. The phone wouldn't let me open Soldier Ants again or change the background, so I reset the phone and all was well.

Tom/Floss,
Thanks for getting me up & running again with Soldier Ants.
I have been trying out ver 1.51, and have a few comments/suggestions:
1. I like the new, bigger area maps. Good work - looking forward to extra map packs.
2. One problem I encountered with the bigger map (not sure if it was an issue before): A weapons crate landed a very high piece of land. I tried to teleport up there to get it, scrolling the screen up by pressing along the top edge. However, when I let go (in order to tap the teleport target location), the
view automatically scrolled back down. It took me about 20 attempts to tap the right spot while it was scrolling past. This led me to think of a suggestion you may want to consider (no. 7 below), but a fix in the meantime would be great.
3. Now that the distances (between ants) are bigger, I think there's an argument for
bigger blast areas for non-targeted weapons (eg. the grenade), as it is more difficult to accurately land a weapon directly on an enemy ant from a greater distance. The weapon's effect would still decrease with distance from the centre of the blast, but you shouldn't have to be quite so accurate to cause some damage.
Three requests that I remember suggesting some time ago, but I would still love to see incorporated:
4.
Volume controls via the in-game menu. It's annoying having to exit the game if you forgot to turn the sound down!
5.
Pop-up notification box when a weapon/health crate is collected, stating which weapon or how much health has been added.
6. Action replays! Useful to review great shots. Vital when playing two player on one device.
7. Following on from my view scrolling troubles, I was thinking how useful it would be to have a small 'view' icon in the bottom corner of the screen, when tapped, this would bring up a rectangle outline (representing the map area), with a smaller rectangle (representing the view area). The size of the smaller rectangle would obviously vary according to the current zoom level, but could be dragged around within the larger rectangle in order to look around. Similar systems can be found in lemmings or photoshop. I think this would make it easier & faster to judge long shots and choose tactical ant positionings. Let me know what you think of this suggestion - you may decide it's too much work....
Here is a representation I quickly did in Paint:
Thanks!

I'll have a go at this tonight and see what happens.

I could add a pause to the auto scroll. You can position the teleport really easily by tapping anywhere on screen to place the target and then without lifting the stylus, drag the target over to the position you want.
> bigger blast areas
I will investigate that. It could be really cool, because you'd have to throw grenades further which would make it a lot harder to aim them.
> Volume controls via the in-game menu
That's a fair point. I'll look into adding that.
> Pop-up notification box when a weapon/health crate is collected,

I've been meaning to do that for a long time!
> Action replays!
That would certainly be a cool feature. It is a huge job though, so it will have to wait until the next major overhaul of the game.
> small 'view' icon in the bottom corner of the screen
Ah, that would be cool. Should be fairly easy to add as well. I could even show the positions of the ants on it.
Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I'm still getting hours of fun with Soldier Ants, I didn't buy my p910 to play games on but this is the most used app I have. 1.51 is great, I've been looking at the requests for improvements and think that bigger blast areas would make the game easier. I'd like an "extreme" difficulty setting for the opponent teams, I play campaign mode and although I do lose the odd round I always win the campaign easily. Also, and I realise this won't be popular on this forum but I'd be happy to pay for further map packs if they weren't free.
Best regards, Matt

I second Matt on both accounts (i.e the extreme difficult option and wont mind buying extra map packs). I actually bought the latest map pack coz just couldnt wait for it to be free and quite frankly wont mind paying more than the odd dollar. Thanks Floss, your game rocks!

I might have a look at making the ai tougher (on the hardest setting). You can always reduce the number of ants on your team to tip the balance a bit.
If I do charge more than a token amount for a map pack it would have to have a good amount of work put into it. Say three or four map themes and 30-40 unique map layouts.
You could always use the editor to create your own maps.
Cheers,
Tom

Tom, many thanks for the idea of less ants on my team, I should have thought of that. As for the point on the maps, I'm not sure, maybe it's not practical but I reckon a fiver for 10 maps is reasonable and I'm certainly not loaded.
Still, with or without extra maps, great game, great support.
Once more, many thanks.

I'm a bit confused. Maybe someone can help me, I used to be able to change the team names in Soldier Ants. I understand that in the FAQ provided in the older version, that you just need to edit the document in "d:\documents\soldierants\english\teams.dat"
So I searched my P800 using the Epocware File manager and inside "d:\documents\soldierants", I found many files like gamesetup, records, saved game...but no folder name "English" or "teams.dat"
I uninstalled Soldier Ants and downloaded the latest (presumably) version from Tom's website and now when I open "d:\documents\soldierants" I only find the "maps" folder, "regUIQ.dat" and "Wad.dat", still no folder "English" or "teams.dat"
So how do I change the team names? Any help appreciated.

@ alpal
tap on the name of the ant on the team screen, then you can edit the names. This also works for the team names.

Thanks but does that mean I have to edit the teams and ant names one by one on the screen itself? Is there no way I can just change the name using the old method and just transfer the file into the d:\documents\soldierants\english\teams.dat?
The old method was much easier coz you can edit the name on ur computer using Word Pad and just transfer to the phone.
Anyoneelse can file that file i.e English and teams.dat or has Tom deleted all those files in the latest version?
