Yeah you would have though a giant like Sony would test their products. We, on this forum are a tiny proportion of users and these issues are common even here.
Exactly, it's a tiny proportion and in no way can it be taken to be a statistically relevant sample. Study statisitics before assuming it is. Another factor is that there are MANY users who post here without mentioning problems, but neither do they sing it's praises - the fact is that people are far more likely to complain bitterly than praise excessively - it's human nature. So the majority of disgruntled owners will post long and hard, while the majority of very happy and satisfied users will post only here and there, if they bother at all.
Therefore the results of your survey are highly stacked towards those who have problems. You simply cannot use these forums as proof of the wholesale failure of the C905. EXACTLY THE SAME thing happened with the K750, which had some teething problems in the first 6-12 months as was complained bitterly about by the few who had problems, but the phone went on to become the most successful handset SE produced probably ever. The K750 was my own personal favourite, and I owned mine throughout the whole run of problems reported to this forum without ever experience a single one of the problems reported. At the time, those with the problems kept saying the same thing as you - that the amount of problems reported on the forum PROVED how crap the phone was, yet people kept buying it and loving it, why would that be so if it was such a failure?
It's been a similiar story with the W910, with many reporting problems on the forums but in hindsight it turns out the majority of people with W910's you speak to now are happy with their phohes and have no were near the problems that seemed to plague the forums a year ago.
BTW, it's SONY ERICSSON, not SONY. SONY and ERICSSON and SONY ERICSSON are three separate companies, each responsible for their own quality control.

Still Sony though and still a giant. I just called Carphone Shitehouse and they have only just booked it in. Usually I wouldn't give a toss how long it takes but I really wanted it for my holidays. May have to buy a proper camera now.
Damn and blast the whole affair. Piffle and Bunkem.
Sorry to keep moaning.

Anyway to lock and unlock the phone WITHOUT sliding up and down the phone?
Left softkey, right softkey.
New knowledge every day...and I've had the phone for six weeks!

@walgman
It might be Sony on the label, but the giant that is Sony is very little to do with Sony Ericsson on the whole.
@Max
Great post, but it still doesn't help all the people who do have problems, the ones who have just spent £300+ on a brand new phone which stops working in a week. These are more than just annoying little niggles, these are very poor build quality problems, and possibly design problems in some cases.
If

want to build up so much hype for the phone over several months, they really need to deliver when release date comes. I agree with you over the idea of only the complainers post, as that is true with all product reviews, it's human nature to voice your annoyance. But the fact that everyone is coming on so soon after the release, and all voicing the same hardware, not software problems, is not very promising.

Marty: my verdict for you is, once again - good post. As much as I agree with max about the importance of not jumping to conclusions concerning statistics, I fully agree there's something fishy about the general perception of the mobile phone as an object. Using my own C905, I find hardware flaws that hardly would have been accepted in other electronic products of that price range. 'I just bought myself a new DSLR camera. It's great, the lens is just a little loose and wobbly, nothing major.'

same, for some reason SE products don't match up to the SE build quality, I'm a bit of a fanboy so I got a PS3, TV, DSLR, computer, radio and they all havn't had one flaw, ever. They have worked like a dream, however, my last 2 SE phones have been all over the place, I shouldn't have to buy a phone and then send it back in under a month, I would expect that if I bought a 360!

Thats so true, I'm 100% sure c905 could not last as long as this monitor from way back in 2003 (guess what? its a sony)

This kind of thing is exactly why I never rush to buy an electronic device right after release - better to give time for its problems (and price) to settle in first.

I only joined this forum when I bought my C905. Glad I did cause I have learned things I otherwise wouldn't have. Its excellent. My first posts where not complaints nor is most of the stuff on here. However I do agree though that one is more likely too complain that praise.
Suppose we in the UK are pretty lucky that we don't in general have to fork out hundreds of pounds for our phones. I know we end up paying eventually but the way I think of it is my £30 a month is for my (effectively) unlimited calls and texts.
The main reason for my moans is I was hoping to take some great phots on my hols and also to post some to impress everyone.
The other feature I was looking forward to using on my holidays was google maps etc. Reckoned it would be pretty cool in strange places like China. Consult the guide book and set off, sort of thing.
Before you say it I am not silly enough to use data abroad. I always buy local SIMs.
Anyway If I don't get it back on time I will put a camera driver on the old workhorse k800i and use that.
Another great thing I learned from you guys.
