I still think that the VAIO brand could have been successful.

PC laptop profit margin are paper thin, only companies with their own assembly/production lines and been in the business for eternity can manage to carve tiny profit out of it. And Sony was not one of those. Its just a dead weight they have been carrying on for far too long. I believe it was never profitable.

Regarding the QX series obviously there's a market for it but not everyone wants to carry big lenses around with them, a lot of people don't even use compact camera these days.
Sony should add 5x or 6x lossless zoom to the photo and video as an alternative and it would be a great selling point to.
WhatI notice on the Z2 is when you zoom in on 4k the quality decreases straight away whereas on the S5 and no doubt the Note 4 you can zoom in 4 times on 4k and not lose much quality.

The laptop market is like an end of the world sci-fi at the minute.
To continue the analogy the manufacturers are clans, the products are the remaining people, the customers are the food and water supplies. Most clans still has some high-blood line (ultrabooks), but most are poor excuses for life.
The world (laptop market) is still over-crowded (saturated), supplies aren't enough and are diminishing.
Sony made the right choice in not being part of a dog-fight that doesn't actually mean life or death.
The compact camera market is going this way too, just much slower.

Smartphone market, however, is a typical booming industry, still to reach the peak, probably about half the way there or just under.
Smart accessories like screenless camera QX series are still fighting for their place in the world, revolutionaries trying to find a following to mount an attack on world domination so as to avoid been deserted on an exotic island.

Sony mobile financial revision.
Looks like focusing more on premium devices and less mid range.

That's the way to go. As long as Sony isn't able to deliver decent hardware at midrange price-point (Moto G, Xiaomi Redmi 1s...) concentrating all their resources on high-end segment is the best they could do.

Focussing on high end will be difficult for them when you have Apple and Samsung pretty much owning that segment.

Finally they came to their senses. Focus on high end. Let go all the others. Z, Z compact, Z ultra, z compact tablet and z tablet. Analyze the market and opt for Windows 9 for tablets (Portable pcs) when it is time.

I hope they can bounce back, I would be devastated if they closed down their mobile division.

I think Sony is just too conservative in producing phones. They must put every new tech or improved hardware even its not that huge advancement. Sony is not Apple or Samsung with huge fan base or popularity. Its okay if all consumers are that wise to see the reason why Sony is not putting every new tech. Sony needs to put new or even gimicky things for us. I say quadHD, Software Functions, Snapdragon 805, IR blaster , Superior Stereo speakers etc. They need recognition this time. If they reach Apple or Samsung level then thet can use their strategy but for now. I think they must put every single feature to put their products above others.
Look at LG G3 it was able to grab a huge sale even we think quadHD ad laser af are just too gimicky. Just my opinion. I still believe in Sony.
