I believe the wish is for Sony to have its own OS so they can have total control. Android is great, but for the most part the money from apps and whatnot goes to Google rather than Sony. From a business perspective on the software Sony could make a lot of money by pushing their own OS compared to Android. Of course Android has the larger user base, but you have to start somewhere.
Personally, I want to be able to play my Vita, PSP, PS1, and PS Mini games on my phone as they offer a superior gaming experience to what you will find on Android and iOS. PSM games are there of course, but they are more like Android and iOS games… not nearly on the same level as the others I mentioned. If Sony can let us play Vita games on Android, then perfect! If not, then I would love a Vita OS phone to do so. Physical controls would be a must, of course.
As it stands, Vita OS is not suitable for pbones, but it's not supposed to be in its current form. We know Sony built it with that type of expandability in mind, so it's just a matter of modifying the OS appropriately.
BTW, Sony does not have to dump Android in favour of Vita OS. We know they are willing to juggle multiple OS's like with Firefox OS, so why not make a phone with their very own OS?

OMG. RX is just a name ZOMG used to refer to One Sony because it's like RX100. The phone won't be named RX. The name will be decided much later.

Their high end point and shoots use RX so that may be why.
