Has anyone just straight up flashed the 031 software from davinci?
I am looking to unbrand my America Rogers Phoen but wanted to make sure I use the right UNBRANDED flash as i am rather new to flashing.
Any suggestions? I have read through this thread but have not seen an actual firmware listed. Am I to assume that CUSTOMIZED means it is unbranded?
Kavy;
First off - since others were so rude not to do so (j/k) - Welcome to Esato ! May your visit become a fulltime passion & habit here!
Now; since you're a fellow Rogers user (I'm in Toronto). I'd like to warn you of a few things.
1> BACK UP your FIRMWARE & CDA COMPLETELY intact before UNBRANDING!
2> Just keep in mind that Rogers MobileTV, Video On Demand, and other such vision apps are just that APPS (Music player with the headphones icon top left of menu). MediaPlayer is standard so don't worry. When you onbrand then I don't think there is a way to just download those apps and install or just get them off the phone (since I'm not unbranding just yet).
3> If you need servicing, you MAY have to put back on the original firmware.
Hey can anyone point Kavy in the right direction so he doesn't labotomy his new phone, please?

He asked advice on which FW version to choose, not what debranding may entail in regards to his current carrier. If one chooses to switch FWs, it is obvious that any warranty is forfeited. How do you back up your current FW anyway, and if there is way you didn't provide an explanation for it either. People need to do basic research on their own, which it sounded like he had by the scope if his questions being so specific instead of a general how do I/what is debrand/upgrade. Every question he asked was answered.

(this is what he originally stated in this thread. Specifically mentioning "Unbrand" "America Rogers Phoen" (Phoen was a typo for phone).

Fair enough. But MANY ppl unbrand - regardless if new or old members here, or research on just their objective - without realizing how it affects the services they have.
Right now the K850i is VERY new in Canada and very cheap due to the services the only provider offering here does. Since this is the Official K850i thread, my posts are relevant. Especially since he wanted to un-brand his phone. I'm not going to do the research for him on how to backup his firmware - that isn't my job. Looks like you haven't looked into it being possible; although I haven't confirmed myself but its just a prudent thing to do. Considering Kavy mentioned reading this thread (I'm sure he's aware of the many problems so many ppl are having and he'd want to protect his investment in the K850i; should he ever need it).
You gotta stop looking at the lines themselves when ppl post. And begin to look between the lines, even just once in a while. I was offering help & to be cautious; and you try to shut me down/up for it. Great work.
To assume " If one chooses to switch FWs, it is obvious that any warranty is forfeited", is not always in the forefront of all ppls minds. If I only take my career experience in flashing BlackBerry's and apply it to firmware flashing (back 1 or more previous firmwares if valid for a particular model); then this does NOT void my warranty in any way! If I didn't know about other phones, I could easily make the same assumption. Nobody made that clear so why assume he knows?
Another thing, if he still resides in Canada then its possible that certain services he's already paying for (if he is) will not be usuable without those apps. Again I was offering caution & help. Its up to him to see if its any benefit or not and to use some/non of it.

I understand what you are saying and shooting you down is not my intent. However, I know nothing about Rogers and have not heard of any backing up of CID52 FWs yet (i may be wrong however). He asked how to unbrand X carrier and upgrade to 031 and I did my best to provided him with my input. If there is a question asked and I am able to answer it, I am more than willing. It is great that you went above and beyond the scope of his question, but just don't chide people in the event they do not.
Nothing against you bud, cheers.

I'm on 3 in Aust. I currently have firmware 37 and finally 39 became available today. I know 39 is just a copy of 38 used by 3. I'm not too worried about less battery life as I have a car charger/cradle I use most days.
I use email and photos the most with a little browsing.. and even some phone calls occasionally hehe:)
Is it worth upgrading? Or should I wait in the hope that they will eventually release version 31?
Ta.

If battery life is not important then definitely upgrade. I had 38 tmobile branded and liked it better than 31(I just like the vibra touch of 31). The camera is better and its a lot faster than 37. Also, the fact that there were no blue rings of death with 38 is something to be considered.

I ended up going with
K850i R1EA031 CID52 K850 1206-0882 CUSTOMIZED ID/ VELVET BLUE APAC-ANZ
No problems at all just setting back up my wap settings and whatnot for rogers, push email is giving me some problems but that just might be gmail.
I can confirm that it is unbranded and so far I have not had any problems.

This isnt a firmware problem, yet this is a firmware thread. I would return the phone or try posting in a hardware thread.

Hi,
I've had my K850 for a few months now and have never been able to update it via SEUS or the phone's built in updater, both always tell me my software is up to date. I am on 3 UK and still using R1CA029, but it says at the start of this topic I should be able to get R1DA039. Is this a common problem? I can't understand why I'm not able to update it...
