I think I need to wipe mine and start again. Lock screen wallpaper won't chnage and Xperia Link crashes every time I try connecting to my Tablet Z.

Kitkat bugs so far. 1) When I play the Walkman via bluetooth headset, sometimes it doesn't play but the tracks skip in super quick succession and continues to skip without playing until I force close it. 2) 3rd party small apps crash 3) Some popular apps like Waze won't start with the infamous prompt "unfortunately the application has stopped" 4) Camera starts very slow from standby 5) Camera prone to crashing 6) Generally small lags in between operations. 7) Widgets get killed off again which has not happened for a while now.

Thing I absolutely hate: Quick settings now needs an extra click to access which defeats its quick nature and can now be rivaled by a settings widget. Its layout & icons looks half baked too. This has got to be Sony's worst customization in a while

Thing I absolutely love: The camera optimisation is the most radical & best improvement ever compared to all of my Sony/ Sony Ericsson devices. Superior Auto is nothing short of amazing on top of the option for 4:3 ratio. I can't be happier in the imaging department

I know it's early days yet as I only updated yesterday but does anyone else think that the battery is a little worse? Plus the phone is being held awake a lot more now
I checked my network modes yesterday and the phone fired up using 4G where as I had it set to WCDMA so I've switched it back but there's no more 2G option there
Hopefully I'll be able to check out the camera over the weekend though

so what improvements does Kitkat really bring for the Z1? is it really worth the update or are we better off with Jelly Bean...I already know kitkat means writing to sd cards is no go unless you root the phone. I have the Z1 compact and am perfectly happy with the OS on it....maybe the THROW implementation could be improved a bit but nothing major, and better codec support for video

I have also found that the NFC icon in the Quick Settings doesn't appear to do anything. I haven't noticed any difference with the battery life but I haven't had much chance to test it.
I am going to do a full wipe and repair install to see if that helps improve things on my Z1.

I would do arepair install as soon as PC Companion decides that it will backup my data without crashing!

@jcwhite_uk, Try connecting your phone to some other usb port. I spent hours with the back up and restore giving me errors but when I changed from usb 3.0 to a normal 2.0 port it worked. Also, if your re installing the firmware solely for the wallpaper bug, then I dont really recommend going thru all that hassle. It should be fixed with the next update.

Also, when you update to kitkat, there are a few bugs, even with the sound fix. First few days, the phone will run hot and the battery will drain quicker. But the positives are that the on screen time(especially web browsing) has been improved, but I do not see any change in the standby power usage(may have been slightly less). Also, if you use miracast, then it is finally working.

As for quick settings, you will get used to it. I used to find it very stupid but now I like it. If you press and hold on the icon, you can go directly into the specific setting. For ex- press and hold on wifi, and it will take you to the list of wifi connections available, etc.

When I compared both z1 and z1 compact on kitkat, z1 compact has the new xperia ringtone and notification sound, whereas, z1 has the old one. So I feel that we may get one more update soon and possibly some of the z2 features as well .

I've found another bug in KitKat on my one I've now lost the 2G setting in the mobile networks setting and whenever I restart my phone it will reset to 4G preferred even though I have selected WCDMA preferred or WCDMA only as I haven't got a 4G contract, so my phone continually tries to find a 4G signal
Not good Sony.

@Del,
Its probably because of your region. I have gsm only(2g) mode, wcdma(3g) only, wcdma preferred/gsm and LTE preferred/wcdma/gsm . I wish we had the option for LTE only :/
