does anyone know if you can assign individual message alerts to contacts as in the c905?
Yes.
Open the contact, go to options-->Edit and in tab#3 you will find Picture, Ringtone and Message alert for that contact specifically.

I did the update today. I am on O2 UK and the FW is now R3DA026.
NOTE: Stay away from the update if you have got Gigs of music on your phone.
Theoretically the update shouldn't affect music on the memory but sadly saying that my hours of hours of music have been deleted. My W950 update never did this. Go for the update and you loose the music and vice versa. This is not good and I am shocked.
It did fix the orientation bug in my phone which in my opinion could have been fixed with a master resit before the update. Silly me
There is no luck for the side LED thingy and for the outer display to be used as standby.
In short I don't see any point in release of this update instead it has given me a headache of transfering the same music all over again. sigh
Would keep on posting if I notice anything new after the update.
haha, its normal, SEUS deletes all the stuff in the PHONE memory before the update, and in the case of a normal SE phone it has both PHONE memory and MEMORY CARD memory, and people normally put stuff on the latter. but in the case of the W980, it only has INTERNAL memory, which is = to its PHONE memory lol.
anyone knows why the W980 doesnt have an i behind? (e.g. W980i) is it because its not released internationally? lol
oh btw, can anyone suggest tips on how to maintain the chrome well? i sweat a hell lot and the chrome always gets dirty with sweat and i am scared that it might corrode too fast and wont last me my 2 years
and im gna stay on the default firmware with the phone until a really good one comes out lol.

@tyranusaurus: SE don't put the "i" in anymore. You can tell it's an international phone if it has nothing there. If it is not international, it will hava an "a" for Americas or a "c" for China.
@aasimtom: Yeah that is normal for every SE phone now (except maybe UIQ). That's why SEUS has all the warning messages telling you to back up your data.

hah, and anyone knows why although the FM transmitter works, the phone still prompts me to plug in my handsfree to listen to radio? don't tell me singapore bans this for no apparent reasons? lol. the receiver doesnt "transmit" any signals and should be safe in places like hospitals too what? lol.
and someone PLS reply about taking care of the chrome from my previous post too! thanks!

The FM transmitter doesn't need the same antenna needed to RECEIVE radio signals. It's only sending an FM signal a metre or two from the device!
