Apparently some iphone 4 owners can't reproduce the signal issue. Here's an article with an example (video) and also other videos showing gsm phones with serious signal variations. (the article is translated, it was written in portuguese)

Once you take this phone in your hands it is very difficult not to like it..it really makes the iphone 3GS feel dated..
i have been using android recently (desire) and although it is a nice platform, it soon makes you want to look for something different..there are many valid android devices out there now but people fall into the trap of changing devices often and then realizing that the phone feels the same as the previous one..there are no significant performance differences between say a Motorolla Droid and an HTC Desire (barring obvious things like keyboards, Sense interface etc..)
Regarding the reception issue, I have not had a dropped call with the phone yet, although there is some fluctuation in signal strength..i feel this is also area and carrier related..i too will look with interest to see how apple tackle this..
i have owned many phones but there is no phone i would take over this one at the moment..one needs to hold the phone in their hands for a few days to fully appreciate its value..If people can afford it they should buy it..This is not about android, or apple or microsoft..The iphone 4 is a special phone..
And yes, i feel the white should be a better choice..one would appreciate the stunning design of this phone more, in white..Lets see when they release them..
A quick observation about GPS signal (a major issue with 3GS) : it locks almost instantly on iphone 4 with my Navigon software..

i was reading on another forum that some people were getting free bumpers in apple stores after going to complain, but as much as i squeeze and hold i just cant replicate the reception issues so there goes my plan of going to try and blag one
the bumpers do look really nice and well made but i just cant get my head round paying £25 for a rubber band with metal buttons
after a few days of the IP4 i still think i prefer the look of the 3Gs though, but performwise the phone is outstanding!
right now i just want a jailbreak to make it perfect!

If you ahve not got the reception issue surely you don't need the bumpers then?

the bumper is a protective case like any other and its the best looking one i have seen so far, i want some form of case on it since the glass isnt exactly as unbreakable as they claim

Yeah well I don't think any glass on a mobile is going to be bullet proof
