Me too tired of hearing his boring posts. Am still convinced he is Guaralhos under a new name. Apparently he is the only one who knows about photography
@Sonysta do you believe everything you read to be FACT or GOSPEL?? That just cos a review or person states something that it's to be true?? Just because a review says it is not as good as the 808 does that mean it's actually true?? No. As an example a recent review of the Z1 on GSM Arena said the camera was not so good yet on Phone Arena it was fantastic. Don't believe all you read and many of these mobile phone sites are not employing professional photographers and their photo tests are often flawed. You need to see and test for yourself. I have managed to get cracking images out of a basic Huawei phone which goes to show who is behind the camera matters just as much. Stop stating these silly so called facts and calling it fake Pureview. It's getting boring

Heh, he does go over the top doesn't he.
I respect GSM more than other sites. Ive only once really had an issue with one of their writers opinions, which was when one of them posted how clearly Samsung ripped off Apple, which was nonsense and he probably got fired.
What surprises me, in
their final words / conclusion, they clearly don't mention the phone camera being any worse than the 808. Which is a good thing as its what we're all discussing here. Im not as impressed with the shots myself as what i'd like to be, there is some clear corner blurring in their own photos. There is also some noise, more than what we're used to coming from the 808.
I love how they slate the Sony Z1 compared to the 1020 - that's gotta hurt the Sony zealots !
"Sony's answer to Nokia's PureView photos. Unfortunately, the Z1 can't keep both the full resolution shot and the downsized shot like the Lumia 1020. It also lacks optical image stabilization and a xenon flash. Not to mention that even the downsampled shots are nothing to write home about and the full resolution 20MP photos are lackluster. Despite having a 1080p display, the Xperia Z1 TFT unit is nowhere near the quality of the Lumia 1020's AMOLED screen. In fact, Sony's only advantages over the Lumia 1020 are its water-protection shell and probably, the Android OS "

A friend of mine has the Z1 and it takes fab photos. Phone Arena seemed to get better pics than GSM Arena did

Having looked at the 1020 shots the 5mp ones looks way more detailed as they would

@Etaab... The Xperia Z1 had everything to provide images as good as the 1020 (especially at night), after all, have a good resolution (20.6 MP), highlighted image sensor (BSI Sony Exmor RS), excellent set of lenses (Sony G) and an excellent solution for electronic image stabilization (SteadyShot), but then again Sony sinned in post processing !
Virtually all images of Xperia Z1 has your details ruined the aggressive noise reduction process, not counting the Cybershot menu that is too limited (there is no control of sharpness, saturation, contrast and much less exposure time), the very limiting and exploit the full potential of the device !
In my opinion if only Sony impaire reducing noise and preserve details, even if it cost greater amount of noise, surely Xperia Z1 night would be equal to or higher than 1020 !
PS: As to gsmarena did not mention anything about the 1020 be better or worse than the 808, the answer is very simple... Who has eyes and understand a minimum of digital photography, know that 808 in every situation produces better results than the 1020, but there is no interest of any website in direct confrontation with the Nokia / Microsoft and expose their false advertising because it could pose future problems, especially in the commercial area, so to maintain neutrality while not losing credibility both dpreview and gsmarena, chose not to directly confront 808 and 1020 and declare a true winner !

Lol, I don't think it'll hurt Sony users though, I believe part of that is the writer's opinion, reason for that mainly because the 1020 has a much larger sensor, a bulk at the back and a xenon flash, yet the Z1 with a smaller sensor and a thin profile produces shots close to a 1020 (try to look at other samples not just at Gsmarena)(there might even be an update to improve Z1 camera, we will see though), and just like they said, Z1 has android on it, which in fact, is the huge advantage it has over the 1020, a dealbreaker.
I still think those two are targeted at different users, and my opinion I'd still choose the 808 over any of the two when it comes to camera quality alone.

The problem for me with the Z1's camera is simply its just not a patch on the 808 or 1020. Ive seen some shots, read some reviews and speaking about the camera alone I still think my N8 beats the Z1 by quite a gap. Its funny how my three year old N8 has a better camera and bigger sensor than a 2013 flagship. Plus the lack of a xenon flash means its not meant to compete with the top spec camera phones.
You wouldn't release a DSLR without a flash or flash connector. It the same principal with cameraphones imo. If I were to buy a phone mainly for its camera, it would have to have a xenon flash or I would consider it a step backwards. If the 1020 did not have a xenon flash, people would consider it a joke in comparison to the 808. Which is why I still use my N8 for photography when I have a more up to date Android phone and its pathetic LED flash..
I for one wish Sony would make better phones as they're Playstation compatible. But theres always a compromise with Sony, usually in more than one important area. Which is why im fragmented, Samsung smartphone, Nokia cameraphone, Sony games console.

To be fair there's always a compromise, not just on Sony. 1020 runs WP and has a bulk at the back, a dealbreaker for some. 808 also has a bulk at the back and a low resolution screen, N8 also has a bulk at the back although only a slight bulk but has a smaller sensor also. S4 zoom has optical zoom and xenon but is very bulky and no offense but it looks ridiculous in my opinion.
Your choice will depend on your priorities/things that you need most.
No device is perfectly complete all in one, there might be one in the future though, depends on how tech improves.
