I think that Caspa means that apps that are not 8ready get you back to a 7screen.
Just a matter of time.
RT won't play non8 anyhow.

I meant I hope the performance of Windows 8 that Bono speaks of is sustainable, XP and 7 work for a time but freak out so often it becomes the norm for me... Use the time for coffee making...

Have just put windows 8 pro 64bit on my girlfriends 3yr old laptop yesterday (£49.99 for 1 user licence at Tesco, currys,pc world)
Looks ok but havent had much time to do anything else with it yet.
So far though I dont like the fact that you MUST have a microsoft/hotmail account (i use google not msn) and a lot is cloud based.
UI seems nice. Having a mess with it tomorrow to restore all the files.

What?? You DO have to have a Hotmail account to even use it?? Seems silly maybe people will complain and they'll disable that. Luckily I do as my primary email now. Hate Gmail

Yep you need to have a Microsoft account and password. Without it you cant even get past the logon screen.
Do agree that W8 is more touch orientated than anything else. No start button or actual desktop anymore either. Girlfriends gonna hate it lol
Think ill leave XP on my eeepc904ha.

Nope. Its not there anymore. Its the tile type screen like the wp7/8. There is a tiny square icon in the lower right corner which when the curser is placed on it. Opens a side bar where the search, turn off/restart,settings options are.
There is however. A tile called Desktop which does take you to a screen similar to the classic way but you have to return to the tile screen to perform some tasks and to turn the computer off.
The windows logo button is no longer for bringing the Start menu up. It now takes you back to the tile screen. Closing IE down is done by taking the cursor up to the top of the screen until it changes to a hand symbol. Selecting and hold the button down to grab the window and then drag it down to the bottom of the screen to close IE completly otherwise your last web page is still available to view by anyone who selects IE from the tiles.
Address bar is located at the bottom of IE with tabs/other open pages at the top. To see them you need to press the options button of the mouse otherwise they are not visible.

I liked it anyway. I love the tile based system and even I found my way round it when playing around in PC World. I know settings etc and other stuff is different and for many a frustrating new learning curve. But I like it like I love my Windows Phone tile UI
