^besides, they're not doing that 6-month flagship cycle as a matter of global strategy. they are doing it in response to japanese carrier demands, docomo's in particular. after all, japan is perhaps the only country where they are still able to sell considerable numbers so everything they're doing is based on the japanese market demand.

if they have to do produce a new flagship for japan every six months, might as well make it available globally.

if they don't do it, they will be criticized by fans for limiting their products' availability in japan.

@amirprog

You call major hardware and software updates "weak points"? So what's the deal with Z3C?
Sure there are a bunch of people who really don't care much about specs, but even those people are prone to marketing overload in the way of eye-catching terms like FullHD, UltraHD, BoomSound, QuadCore....And those people running to a store, looking for a high-end (!= cheap) compact phone will do a research on the web or ask friends/relatives about the device, cause we're talking about spending a lot of money and that's when where not only emotions are involved in the decision making process, but rational thoughts too. Z3C is a nice device, but imo it won't sell well. I don't see people spending 200€ more for more or less the same device (Z1C). And if people want a stylish high-end compact device they'll go to Apple. The Z3C is on sale for 499€. If you spend 50-70€ more you'll get a 32GB Iphone 5s. I for one would definitely go for the Iphone cause it's an Iphone (status)

Just to confirm that dxomark are a little off when it comes to their scoring, which is what I've been saying for a long time..

the iPhone 6 flash is rated at 84 points and the 808 is rated at 81 points , which means that its not only equal to the 808, but its substantially better.

808

In those images, the way larger 808 sensor has better low light performance than the 6. This means that poor flash performance of the 808 could theoretically be masked by the sensor's very high performance.

^ its a combination of the two, both are very powerful and work well together..

Are you saying that dxo rates the flash without looking at the final result ?

Major hardware and software updates won't arrive to the market until april and even that is an optimistic prediction, especially if you live in the us, plus, z3c spec is competitive. a proof to that is that z3 and z3c got fantastic reviews. best of the best. z3c got enough bells and whistles. no prob here either. if we look at reviews then sonymobile should be number 1 seller right now. this is just a simple proof that 6 month release cycle for the compact is just not what will increase sonymobile sales. a consumer who has an old phone (not by mobile nerds standards) and needs a new phone will look at the whole package. he/she won't just look at the cpu. rest is personal preference. with the z3c reviews, recommendation for it should go through the roof. the strong point of a flagship is that it's capable enough to get you through a few good years. older flags users until xperia z users are potential for z3/z3c. none of them should complain about lack of bells and whistles or spec. the prob of sony is what i wrote in my previous post and was mentioned many times again and again. choosing iphone 6 over z3c is personal preference and/or reason of marketing/product availability/none existent of sonymobile devices in carrier contracts. not a reason of none 6 month release cycle or none competitive spec like that z3c doesn't have s805, etc. sony could ditch z3c and wait until mwc to announce "z4c" with your suggested spec but they chose not to, probably because they save the next ultra for mwc so announcing main flag, compact, ultra and tablet at the same mobile event would be ridiculous. it's like samsung will announce s5, note 4, alpha and galaxy tab at the same event. you want to save some anticipation for other event, have some new bells and whistles, newer spec.

@amirprog I'm not a fan of the 6 month cycle either. My point is that a Z3C successor at MWC would be more justified than the Z3C itself. I'm the "tech-guy" of my family and friends, the nerdy geek you go for if you have questions about consumer hardware. Those non-geeks are not familiar with tech and have little info about devices, but they heard/read about some tech-terms. In first days of FullHD smartphones, it was like "oh but that device has just HD resolution" and now I hear them saying "I heard the Iphone is 64-bit" or "That device is great it has a UltraHD screen!" or "Wow, octa-core CPU" and so on. Long story short: On one site you have the tech-nerds who knows the UltraHD is just plain stupid on smartphones and that more megapixel don't mean better camera. And on the other side you have that average consumer who has little knowledge about tech, but believes to know what a good phones hardware has to look like. As OEM who wants to succeed you have to serve both parties.

Sony schedules a "Demand Great" event for October 9

Maybe a new Z3 incorporating the new curved sensor.

New Z3?

Where does it say it's smartphone related? Maybe some other consumer electronics. Most sites speculate it's Z3 announcement for U.S. carriers.
