Unlock bootloader =/= root
Unlock bootloader allows you to have access to every phone partition. You can change your kernel for one based on the Sony's, to use on stock ROMS, or install a different Android version (be it AOSP, CM, PARANOID, etc), or even a different OS altogether.
If things aren't secure, though, you just make your device a light house for people wanting your information.

The internet just exploded with articles on the Z3X over the last few days for some reason, but there doesn't seem to be anything new on it as far as I've been able to tell. Anyone manage to find anything?

Those recent informations about Z3X are more than 2 month old and the only leak that is kinda trustworthy is coming from Sonyalpharumors saying that curved sensors are coming in H12015 along with Z3X which most like will turn into Z4 and/or Z4 Ultra. SD810 and QHD-Display along with new Android L Xperia UI is also said to arrive with Z4.

only thing that is skeptical is the tri master OLED display. But I think some report says Sony plans are ready to mass produce large volume/ larger size tri master panels or something. The more of their own custom stuffs they used the better IMO, that will differentiate all the xperia line up from the others consider all the SoC are not pretty much the samething.

I don't think Sony has any medium oled panels and even if they did, no way any are at such a high resolution. JOLED won't have any products until 2-3 years from now. If this supposed device exists it will be shipping with LCD unless Sony will buy panels from Samsung.

The only solution is the Sony asked AUO to produce OLED displays using their super top emissions technology. Just like Sony's prototype 4K OLED TV.

The article is misleading, samsung is allowed to sell to other companies but no other companies are buying from them now. If Sony, HTC or LG wanted OLED screens from samsung, I am sure they would be able to buy them. But again they don't want to give money to samsung in the end. They are probably waiting for other firms to develop the OLED screens.
Dell is using the tab s screen in it's android tablet, the 2560x1600, the Dell Venue 8 7000.

1. ips lcd from jdi (that is part sony) and auo is as competitive, better in some aspects and still evolving as samoled.
2. they don't want the displays to look like galaxy device that is recognized with samsung.
3. they are not very impressed with how samoled displays look.
4. they rather not pay samsung for another internal. they already pay them for the memory chips.
ips is the only option for sony atm because jdi and auo don't yet have qhd oled ready for devices and qhd is a selling feature which sony can not ignore anymore. next z4 wave of devices need and most likely will have qhd ips...
sony's own oled sounds like false rumor because there are no news of sony developing oled displays for smartphones.
