I can't believe some users are actually believing that SE is discontinuing the X10. Can you guys stop and think a bit? Sony Ericsson have put a lot of effort into this phone and this includes firmware upgrades and especially all the advertising done throughout the world. If X10 was to discontinue, they wouldn't have done any firmware upgrades.

Exactly.

The X10 is SE's flagship. It is doing far better for them than any other phone has done for them recently, despite what 'some guy in a phone shop' might say. Are mobile phone shop staff suddenly CEO of Sony Ericsson? No, and they probably have next to nothing in the way of information from SE either.

The X10 is being upgraded to 2.1 in a few months like it has been said a million times. It is not discontinued.

That's probably why the X10 price has gone down. In an online store here that I have bought most of my phones from, there is $50 CAD decreased in the price of X10 and a difference of $70 CAD from HTC Desire's price.

Ive been in this wholesale mobile phone buying scene for a while now, and I can tell you significant price drops DO happen from time to time. Usually its just small drops every week, or every couple days, but again, from time to time, prices may drop a lot.

Boils down to a number of things really, could just be the store not changing their prices for a little while, then all of a sudden dropping it quite a bit. OR, as the production of the x10 gets further along, costs MAY become cheaper. Similar to how the PS3 production costs dropped after a while.

The x10 price has dropped just like it has every week since release, only these past 1 or 2 weeks, the drops have been slightly larger.

The x10 will not be discontinued, and anyone who believes that is, im sorry to say, 'silly'. Its their flagship phone, they have poured so many resources into it, all the marketing, firmwares, updating to Android 2.x etc... Why would bother to work on that if they were stopping production. As some one said above, just because a sales person said they sales were poor, does not mean anything really. Id say its currently one of the best selling phones on the market. Just because some mobile enthusiasts dont agree with it running 1.6 or that its only being updated to 2.1, they are only a small minority compared to the size of the whole market!

Guess we will find out when release their quarterly results in the coming weeks!

I totally agree with you. Looking at engadget and gizmodo, they don't really appreciate X10 what it really deserves. No doubt other mobile phones have been running on Android 2.1 but X10 is coming out with Android 2.1 too. And besides it does have the same specs like Droid, iPhone 4 and so on. There are two big minus points for X10 one is Multi-touch and Battery life. A) Multi-touch is used very well in browser besides that I don't know but honestly speaking I really don't think I need Multi-touch for browsing. B) Battery life of each and every phone right now sucks! I mean there is no vast difference. But I'm very sure by the end of this year or may be next year the mobile companies are definitely going to find a solution for the battery life.

X10 is a very good phone. I've been doing some research from past 1 week cause am planning to buy a new phone now and I was not really keen on X10, was about to go for iPhone 4 but overall I would still stick with SE X10. It's definitely a great phone with all the features that a High end smartphone must have and you know the best part? not many people really talk about this anywhere on blogs/forums or websites. But it's the most stylish phone currently in the market !!

I'm buying an X10 within the next few weeks, and so I was reading some reviews as if almost trying to hype myself up about it. As a long time Engadget reader I reluctantly gave their X10 review a go thinking it would be full of hate for the phone, as that's all any SE phone seems to receive from that side of the Atlantic, but I was wrong. Based on a pre-production model, Engadget actually praised the X10, only saying it had a few lag problems and a problem with text input (which I haven't heard about as a valid complaint anywhere recently).

I think one of the reasons the X10 doesn't get much appreciation now from those big US blogs is the fact that the Americans are obsessed with Android and having the latest version. Just reading those sites shows how much they encourage rooting the devices and installing the latest, but possibly unstable Android variants. They go on and on and on about how bad a phone is if it doesn't have the latest version, even though 1.6 has proven to be very good (if it wasn't, then why would people love Android so much?).

The other reason I can think of is that the US haven't yet got the X10 as far as I know. SE doesn't support the US very well (and that may not be SE's fault really), but how can the US really like the X10 if it doesn't have it to experience it?
