didn't no that...
But you must admit that's looks like camera on k800
(only without camera)
p.s.
I took 2 pics right now, one with finger on that sensor, and one without ....
they are same.

The ambient sensor is just a sensor who adjusts how bright your screen should be. sunny/night so to speak. It has nothing to do with the cam

Yeah, of course they would be. It's the light sensor for the screen and keypad. It would make no sense for a camera light sensor to be on the side of camera the lens isn't on, now would it?

I can't see in menu, any "automatic by the sensor" option.
My is on 50 %.

I tried in dark room now put the finger on it... There is no any changes

Well if you are in i dark room and put your finger over it dont you think the phone already knows it is dark?
Try to put your finger over the sensor in bright light instead if you want to fool it
