The Moto PEBL has really dropped in price quickly here, compared to the run of form that the RAZR enjoyed when it was launched. Perhaps not too surprising I suppose, due to the similarity in specs and market segment focus...it wouldn't have made too much sense to price the 2 handsets too differently, even if the RAZR has been around that much longer.
Carphone Warehouse is now selling them for £109.95 when bought with £10 airtime on Vodafone PAYG (but unlocked and unbranded like most CPW stock); this also pertains to the more limited deep red/burgundy example too:

Speaking of Motorola...Cell C are discounting the phone through Game...a brand spanking new V3 will cost you R1275.

@brad: I would not buy a Motorola smartphone. They've got the A1000 which is a UIQ phone. I like their fashion phones even though they're light on features the exception being the V3x.

In South Africa we're still lucky, go onto any American site like howardforums and see how Motorola, for instance, cripple in their phones so subscribers are forced to only download content through Verizon's mobile portal.

Although things are faqr from perfect when it comes to service we still get a good deal from our networks.

Hi all, I would like to know how "cheap" these new phones are in ZA. For exmaple, here in Naija, my monthly salary cannot afford ONE W800i! Most new Phones cost from 35-70k while the salary of a young graduate is like 30-40k.

Is it easy for you to just walk into any store and pick up any new phone?

@Menagaryl: I'm partial to UIQ but wouldn't describe myself as a devotee...sort of like the guy who loves Macs but who doesn't quite have a hatred for Bill Gates.

@coola: I don't know what the average poster on here earns...if I felt the need to splurge I could easily walk into Vodashop and buy myself a US$500 phone...thankfully a sense of sanity prevails just as I'm about to blow cash on the latest gadget from or Blokia.

In South Africa, like most parts of the world, a mobile phone has become a status symbol and no-one wants to be seen with a three year-old phone unless you're a technophobe and think WAP is an abbreviation for some killer virus.

Here are my top phones in SA currently. I work at the HQ of a large media conglomorate so O get to see people using lots of phones.

1) N70
2) Moto V3
3) Samsung D600
4) Nokia 6230
5) K750
6) Moto SLVR
