i might still buy a p990 but only when the price is next to give away,i think ill go with HTC trinity which expanys expect to have in a couple of days. Why trinity?i would say it is 2006-7 device, specs wise ,the p990 is more 2005-6 so its definetely not going to carry me thru next year. But really for me the biggest issue with the p990 as someone who likes to experiment with my phone it has to be the amount of programs available for the WM5 device as opposed to UIQ3 its like comparing a lake to a pond -so its really nothing personal against the p990 plus the 1500mAh battery on the trinity is handy when surfing wifi b/g

It's been avaliable for aprox. 2 months for a small, lucky group of us and it has been two (2) updates since then........

This is completely nonsensical. You didn't buy a P990i because of perceived problems, so instead bought a N93 about which you have heard exactly the same??

Furthermore, I'm at a loss as to why you're posting here to be honest. You don't have the phone; you don't want the phone; and you accuse people who have the phone and who are perfectly happy with it (people like me) of having "rose tinted spectacles" for believing Firmware updates work. They do. I wish you the best of luck with your N93, but would happily recommend the P990i to you or anybody else

Hi Guy,
Yes you are right i don't have one and for good reason and not the fact i couldn't afford one either. If you or others are happy with your P990's good luck to you and i really hope you are enjoying it. But if one more person says don't worry they'll fix i'm going to scream LOL.

How long has this phone been avaliable for? and how many updates have there been so far as i have lost count and yet there still appears to be many problems for some if not all, if this is acceptable to you and others fine but to me it is unacceptable and thats the reason i don't have one plain and simple.

I bought an N93 which is also meant to be plauged with problems but i have seen none, well actually just one couldn't open a photo sent by bluetooth which i can live with. No freezes, no crashes, no low memory warnings or apps closeing, I have used every function on the phone with out any problems surfing via 3G and WiFi, syncing over bluetooth, useing Home Media seever, e-mail send and recieve etc etc. But had i experienced problems the phone would of been returned immediatly with out hesitation. So lets all try and be happy with what we have and stop attacking any one that dares hold a different opinion.

Marc

so let me get this right.... you;re slating a phone you don't own based on what you're read on a message board yet at the same time telling me you've bought a phone and are very happy with it yet that is not what you expected due to reading about problems on a message board?

You sound like an idiot to me. When you've tried the P990i come back and I will accept your views. Until that time stop talking crap

When I set up the wireless, it scanned and found my wireless Lan,

I set my WEP key and I add it to group account called "Internet" from the group accounts available which I list below:

Business email
Internet
Vodafone internet
Vodafone Mail incomming
Vodafone Mail outgoing
Vodafone Wap

My W.Lan router on the phone has a Gold padlock and star by it.
My globe and my antenae are on, and I'm connected when I try to open a page it tries by default to open via Vodafone internet, I scroll to Internet and click connect and it tells me

COULD NOT LOCATE REMOTE SERVER

If I dont scroll and connect to the default Vodafone internet my page comes up.

Oh and by the way, my router recognises the phone in its connection Log.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Haig,

I don't know whether you sorted this out but I have just set up my WLAN internet connection and met the same problem.

After a lot of digging around I found the solution to be very simple. The default Vodafone bookmark set up is a WAP site that can't be read over an internet connection - hence the COULD NOT LOCATE REMOTE SERVER
error. Switch to a proper website, ie www.bbc.co.uk and all works fine.

i have a few doubts about 990

1 can we use *.gif as wall paper to get a moving wall paper... i do not mean screensaver

2 is there a a screen saver that will show that clock... in p910 there was the screen saver or powersaver clock option but its missing here... i have to click one switch to see the time each time

3 any new programs that have been released for this handset...

4 can we change how the icons look.... namely the short cut icons where are so boring to see when you compare them with other icons in the handset

5 can we store messages in the memory card ... i have lots of emails and messages that i have to keep and this is eating away my phone memory

6 any larger capacity batteries available

7 what are the ebook readers for this handset..i have a lot of medical ebboks which i refer regularly and now i am stuck with no program to read them

I don't know whether this is the right forum for this but I've just installed Google Maps and it works like a dream - they even have a P990i version!

Like on my P900 it still doesn't fully utilise the touchscreen but with the keyboard this is no problem. I just love being able to zoom in on the aerial photo of Trafalgar Square (Don't forget to ring your bell on the 21st OCtober).
