Quote:Well in a way the problems are TomToms fault as the other 2 GPS recievers I have tried (using Nemerix and MTK chipsets) work flawlessly with everything expect TomTom.On your P990i or on other phones?

on my P990i using nav4all software and on my GFs W850i using G3. My Nemerix based reciever also worked 100% on my old P910i using nhgps. I didnt try the MTK 1 on my P910i.

So basically if you want 100% compatibility we have to buy a TomTom GPS...

It looks that way if you want it 100% guarenteed, some phones may work 100% with non-TT recievers, others may not, it could also depend on the build number of TT Nav 6 they're using or maybe even the map version.

Actually I've just re-installed TomTom (which I had also done with my previous recievers to see if it would cure any problems, without success) and it now works 100% with my Sirf Star 3 unit, no disconnects at all!
Edit - OK this is weird, as soon as I unplug my phone from its USB cable it starts disconnecting fro mthe GPS unit. However while it has a USB connection to my PC no disconnects occur.

Maybe, in that case, it is something to do with the phone being powered/charged.
I remember years back I had a Toshiba PDA where the Compact Flash GPS worked if the PDA was plugged in to the mains....
I will give it a try with my Qstarz GPS which I haven't had time to send back yet...
[edit] Nope, no joy

Its not to do wit hthat because the disconnects continue when the phone is plugged into its mains charger. I have just downloaded a free trial of Wayfinder, the same disconnects occur with that package, but not nav4all.

Whilst I haven't heard of any problems with the Holox, for only a few quid more you can get the far superior Hol
ux from
Nav4All (you don't have to use their software

)
