What type of VA panel are they using?
I've always preferred SPVA over IPS, and VA in general because of the better contrast and VA panels don't produce white glow when viewing a dark image from an angle. However, AMVA and other VA panels are nowhere near as good as SPVA.
Video's I've seen on the Z1 show viewing angles very similar to the Z and I'm pretty sure the Z doesn't have a VA panel.

OLED/AMOLED?
I think SPVA panels have great viewing angles with only minor contrast shift at off angles.

If we compare only native LCD panel technologies then yes there is none with perfect viewing angles and highest possible contrast at the same time.
Only OLED and Plasma

There's also an initial hand on from techradar....

EDIT:
OLED!!!

The display of my PSVITA it's astonihshing... I bought it last week and I remained litterally amazed by its display... you can view it from 90° and still it would not change colours... It's perfect!
PS: why Sony do not use OLED in phones? high costs?

Even that I do not like big phones ... this one is very nice one, from the side it even reminds me a bit of my old Sony Ericsson P1i,but much thinner ...
Worst is that I can have it in 2 weeks time from my provider with a very good deal.Very very tempting .
Should I wait for the rumoured Z1 Mini or go for this one is the question ...

Go for this... spec wise will be superior... and you will not regret buying a big phone... it has a lot of pros!

Hi, from Spain! I am impressed with this xperia Z1, and i have pre-order one from Sony.
My question is, some of you has the chance of test the speaker's sound?
IMO the speaker in z1 is one of the best improvements over xperia Z.
Thanks!

As long as it don't have problem with head on viewing experience, I don't care and personally never ever fond of wide-viewing angle as spoiled tech bloggers usually claim.
I have no preference to share my screen in public.

I think I wasn't very clear.
VA panels do not have poor viewing angles, just that compared to 178 degree viewing angle of IPS panels the VA panels have about 150-170 degree viewing angles. So Z1 by no means has poor viewing angles, just 10-20 degrees or so less wide than LG G2.
