Why did Islam diverge into the different factions that we see today?

the same reason why Christianity did.

However the belief is still the same in Islam, just the understanding of some texts is either different, more rigid than others. or more extreme

@amnesia

Through differences over the interpretation of man's role with God? Or through differences on interpreting scripture or differences in doctrine?

Chrsitianity has 'split' various times and to be honest it was never actually one coherent entity.

differences to do with the actual understanding of the Quraan.

E.g.
it's said that by some extremists, that music is against the religion because it envokes an animalistic state.
Where as the other 99% of us think thats just stupid because you read the Quraan in a musical tone anyway.

@amnesia

Interpretation of scripture seems to be the cause of a lot of religious friction.

Being a Taoist I tend not to think in such terms because there really is no scripture as such. There are different 'branches' of Taoism, but it isn't really the same sort of thing as with Christianity, Islam, et al.

the way I see it, interpret as you like, as long as it reaches the main goal of bettering yourself and bringing peace.

I would tend to agree with that. As long as one is ultimately working towards a better world and helping others I don't really care if they believe the moon is made of cheese ...

A Taoist quote:

Soil with a lot of manure in it produces abundant crops; water
that is too clear has no fish. Therefore, enlightened people should
maintain the capacity to accept impurities and should not be
solitary perfectionists.

that's not entirely accurate. the primary reasons for the various denominations in christianity are political - they relate to old disagreements over the governance of the church rather than the substance of the faith.

Salam all.

Just a quick unknown fact.

If a Muslim asks another for accomodation, the other Muslim CANNOT deny him entry and relaxation for 3 days, the invited cannot reject answering any questions though.
