Well, for a company like SE, do you think that they don't have the tech to make a phone like the N95? They have the tech. The only reason why they haven't made one is because of marketing - marketing to make more money.

Nokia is a lot richer than SE and they can afford to suffer a loss on some of their phones. They've already got an established market presence. That's what SE is trying to do this year. It's for the shareholders.

SE gets support from Sony. To be more exactly - technical support
Let's not forget about the little fact, that Sony is one of the most powerful
electronic companies of the world - or even the most powerful.

It's just a question of time when SE will overtake Nokia. And the strategy
SE is running now is on its best way to become the leader of its market.

I always had a feeling sofia would be a non-ts uiq phone...makes total sense! But please forget about uiq 3.1, SE wont use it...it means nothing! Like eldar also confirmed, se uses its uiq3, that is almost the same of uiq3.1, or will use the new uiq 3.2 based on symbian 9.3, soon to be announced, and later a higher version based on symbian 9.5

M-R have interviewed Nokia S60 executives for how many times already, even Samsung and Motorola's representatives have come up. but i never seen any SE representatives discussing their visions and achievements on that site. SE imho is too silent in that aspect, but they are screamers in rumors. but anyway the most important factor is that SE needs some form of communication to it's user base, "official SEforum" in short so that they can further improve more and more from their product lines and suit their user needs.

And let's not forget Sony's on the best when it comes to marketing It has created such brands as Walkman, Cybershot, Vaio, Handycam, just to name a few

But I don't think SE can overtake Nokia anytime soon (they have almost 40% of the market share). But I'm pretty sure that by 2010 SE will overtake Moto and Samsung

@mrdoubleb
I should've made myself more clear in my post, but I'll clear myself up in the thread as well.

I wouldn't know for sure, but I doubt that Nokia are making much money.

I didn't explicitly say that the N95 was losing money, but it definitely taking market share away from their other high end phones which may be more profitable than the N95. Phones like the 6110 Navigator or E90. That's lost money.

Then there's all the R&D plus the extensive marketing. Marketing which probably won't translate into sales, but looks good for Nokia in terms of public image.

Note the originally high price when the N95 came out which has now dropped quite a bit. Demand should mean that the price stays high - like Apple products. Less demand means that the price should drop to entice more people to buy the phone.

In the end it all means a shrinking profit margin or loss. And if a smaller company that Nokia did this (i.e. Sagem or Alcatel), this would spell disaster.

But as I've said, it's all down to timing, and when the time is right SE can do the same. But this year it's all about increasing market presence.

SE's N95 will be Sofia in that it will be the product that everyone will want because it sounds good, but unlike the N95, it'll be within the price range of the masses.

you're a very wise man shaliron. trust an aussie

seriously though, i completely agree with your last post. it would be nice to see SE come out with more tech heavy phones, but i don't place that want ahead of my want for SE to significantly increase their market share. what we've seen of the P1i and the T650i have captivated my interest, and i can't wait to hear about maria.
