@uchrik: haven't 4gotten u. yes, let's be frank. n. korea, india and pakistan, all signatories to the NPT broke the treaty. what steps have been taken against them? india is now getting free civil nuke aide from US bcos of it. i dont know when israel signed the treaty but it must have been AFTER it had gotten its WMDs technology from the US. the treaty only benefits those who already have WMDs or those who can develope them undetected.

@abu,For collective future of human existence I think it is better to talk of disarming states with nuclear weapons & destroying all such weapons than to allow more nations to develop them.

I totally agree with uchrik, it makes sense to clamp down on further development of nuclear capabilities by nations which hitherto didn't possess such. Remember this was the reason why the UK and france supported the invasion of Iraq? Wouldn't it be double standards to look the other way when Iran does the same?

@uchrik: if the topic of discussion was "should the world have nuclear weapons?" i'd been right with you saying we should take all bombs and throw then into the sun. but i thot the topic was on iran's apparent persue of nuclear weapons. as long as some nations get away with breaking the NPT and eventually get rewarded for it it would be hypocritical to chide others trying to get away with it too. dont you agree, uchrik, guys?

@uchrik: let me state once again that its not that i'm for nuclear profileration. it is this "selective" non-proliferation that makes things sketchy. do you really think IAEA, UN, and all the western worlds intelligence agencies had no idea about india etc before tests explosions went off? please!

@all: to another topic, is this glo car promo on? didnt hear of the winners.

Thanks Deji, ur suggestion worked like a charm, I'm making this post via pc connection.

@Abu: The way I see it, the UN and the US conveniently kept quiet when India developed and tested Nuclear weaponry because, Pakistan had already adopted nuclear status, so letting India do the same was like leveling the playing field.
If Iran has nuclear capabilities today, can u vouch that it will not one day be deployed against Israel? I think the UN allows some nations it percieves as "Responsible" to develop nuclear technology while restricting those it does not trust.
Why in heaven's name does Iran require nuclear powers? is that what its people desire the most? are they well fed? well clothed? Leaders today should strive for the betterment of its people rather than the quest for war.
Iran ought to take a cue from Saudi Arabia.

abu,
ambyz is quite right.Iran has her special characteristics as a nation.UN,EU & US etc effort at regulating proliferation of nuclear weapons is highly commendable, especially in Middle East.An Iran with nuclear capability will surely sponsor "nuclear" suicide bombers.
