Xperia Z1 competition: not so good news for the Z1.

In Sony home market (Japan, where xperia A outsold galaxy s4 1,300,000 vs 700,000, but where iphone is king) Docomo, the main provider of sony phones, should start selling the iphone 5S in september (read from a reuters article).

Also, docomo should not continue it's "two top" strategy offering discounts for Xperia A and Galaxy S4, but now have a "three top" strategy, with discounts for Xperia Z1, the new Fujitsu phone and the new Sharp phone.

Personally it will be interesting to compare the new fujitsu and sharp to z1. Sony has a nicer design and build quality. The shutter button I also like a lot.
Fujitsu generally crams much more cutting edge specs, with fingerprint reader, hardware stabilisation and 64gb memory, waterproof, but the phones are bigger and the battery life not so good. They will start delivering snapdragon 800 so the software might not be optimised as previous models were on tegra.
The sharp should also be on S800, of course have a IGZO screen, so I hope for a good screen and battery life. They also make waterproof models and hardware stabilisation. The build quality is inferior to Sony IMO.

The Sony has an edge because it is global and will be easier to get roms etc...
But i hope sharp and fujitsu start sell their flagship globally as qualcomm modems allow to be compatible with every network and softbank/sprint may offer opportunities to export (and softbank and sharp are like best buddies as sharp helped kick start the carrier of Masatoshi Son, and always provided sharp phones, so I do expect him to help sharp out).
Anyway, this will be exiting for me, I am looking forward to trying it all!!

"Let’s tackle the screen first
It’s a really great screen. Sony have put the time and effort into it, and I put it amongst the best on the market. However, it’s not quite there still.
I would be over the moon with it had I not I put my OPPO Find 5 next to it. The viewing angles aren’t quite as good as the OPPO (although far better than the Z), and for ultimate crispness the Sony just loses out.
Considering that I rate the OPPO Find 5′s screen as the best I’ve ever used, I was setting the bar high. The Sony will, however, give the Samsung Galaxy S4 a run for its money, with only the extreme viewing angles letting it down."

Well it seems a good review I am so buying this beast

DoCoMo should allocate 32GB ROM for the SO-01F considering the amount of bloatware they have.

VA or IPS, but there is no way you can excuse the Z1's horrible screen quality in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa0w4fphCEE

I'm sorry, but a VA panel shouldn't have colour degradation of this magnitude. All the screens have the same background, yet the Z1's looks so washed out. Why? The way the colours wash out, contrast appears to decrease, and colours shift, is reminiscent of TN panels. The screen in that unit there, at least, is neither VA, nor IPS.

I hope for their own sake, they ship all consumer and review units with the proper high-quality VA panel, and these issues are only in prototypes. If they ship to consumers and reviewers with the shitty panel seen in this video, then reviewers are going to be justifiably merciless.

No phone that claims itself to be a flagship, should have a screen that bad, when compared to its competitors.

Also, it looks like the Z1 has no optical image stabilisation. That's a real disappointment. I was hoping that in a phone with such a beastly camera, they'd include at least some form of hardware image stabilisation.

I think most "reviewers", and essentially most people, now are brainwashed into thinking that the viewing angle is a BIG factor in categorizing how good a display is that they instantly come to the conclusion that the display is of poor quality when the viewing angle is "not as good as most top smartphones".

And Sony really needs to change that wallpaper.

@XYZ I think it's been mentioned here that the IFA devices, or some, had an inferior display, then there are some that are really good.

why aren't sony using IPS with triluminos? isn't IPS the highest quality of LCD's with also the best viewing angles?
there is always room for improvements.
