Ofcourse there is a wish to be in EU, every day we are each step closer to EU (but Hungarians, Slovenians were and Romanians, Bulgarians and Croatians are every day 2 steps closer to EU). It will happen, one day, I just don't know when... One of many things that stop us is Tribunal, that think that Mladic and Karadzic are here in Serbia hidden by our govermment, but they are not here! They say: until we have them, no membership of EU! But how are we going to give them something that we don't have?! This message was posted from a K700i

Do Eastern Europeans think of themselves as being European? Is there a desire to be closer to the rest of Europe?

Which Eastern Europeans do you mean becouse former Czechoslovakia is in the heart of Europe. Some ppl from Eastern Europe may ask the same question to you or other ppl from England. We Europens from Continent often think that ppl from British island are not Europens but something between Americans and Russians.Think its also very faulty view.Everyone who lives in Europe should feels and thinks like European.Or maybe I am wrong

You make an interesting point and, to a certain extent, you are correct about Britain. Many Britons do not see themselves as European; I don't see myself as being terribly European, although I think this has more to do with our perception of that word. Certainly I would consider myself European by geography, but I don't consider myself European in the same sense of the word that I would apply to a Frenchman or a German or an Italian; people in Britain have always seen themselves as being a little different to the rest of Europe.
Eastern Europe is typically seen as everything east of Germany and Austria and above Greece. There are certain 'areas' within Europe that give people an additional identity e.g. Scandinavia, the British Isles, the Mediteranean, Eastern Europe, etc. Is there a sense of being European? Most people will say that they are from a particular country rather than say that they are from Europe? Perhaps this will change over time.

Think ,nobody from Europe says"People,I am from Europe or EU" everybody tell you to question Where're ya from, his or her country. It's long way for all ppl in EU (doesn't depend which part) to say "ppl,I'm from EU,do you know it?"

How do you know.I've learned at school that Eastern Europe is part of Europe which have eastern europe time -2 hours ahead of gmt. So f.e. Greece is Eastern Europe and Czech republic,Slovakia,Hungary,Poland are part of Central Europe (they have cet - the same time like Germany ,Holland and so on)
I personally think you've got a little weird textbooks of geography.Or maybe you missed too long at school.
