I'm not sure if it has been posted already, but it seems that there is a new update via pc companion for those with the R2BA020 UK version, it doesn't upgrade the firmware, but it improves the speed a bit , maybe this is similar to the 023 version...

Well... this was probably a bug that some people suffered with R2BA020 and pc companion saying there is an update, which was the same they already had

I don't think Canada got the update yet. I'm fairly certain no X10a NAM users have gotten the update. We tend to be at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to updates from SE (and Nokia for that matter).

Reports are circulating now that the X10a update for Canada is available via SEUS, not OTA.

Right, it's hard to keep up.

I have Generic UK on R1FA016. Is this the latest, or which one is the latest on which area?

Can someone please post in order, which area/version/firmware etc.

Please.

Rogers X10a has received the update today. It is only available via SEUS and not OTA.

I just did it a few hours ago.

I can also confirm this. I was able to update my stock Rogers firmware X10a phone to the new R2BA020 Firmware. =)

Can anyone from Hong Kong or Asia Pacific confirm the update has been released? Bought my X10 from HK but still no update. Maybe its cos of the chinese keyboard.

Also, I'm new to the VPN thing n was wondering if anyone can quickly explain what it does n how it works cos I would like to see what PlayNow has to offer.

Thanks.

@winnerzero

I have Indonesian Generic FW also with the 'Chinese keyboard & HWR' and no update yet. I'm sure it will come soon enough.

As for the VPN. This is a Virtual Private Network which basically means that you use your Chinese (or whatever) connection to connect to a network in the UK/USA/Canada or wherever. Then through that network you access the internet using their IPs and DNS etc thereby bypassing the filtered content in your location. Most VPN services are made up for computers users rather than mobile devices but most will support the iPhone and some support android.

There are different protocols for VPN so be careful, I found IPSECS services work with android in China if they have the right security in place.

It sounds complicated but you can sign up with a service provider (I chose one with UK servers so I can view BBC iPlayer stuff) might cost up to $50 a year but most will offer you a week or so money back period if you cancel. Enter the details to your X10 and connect and you're away, 5 minute setup, less if you've done it before.

I tried StrongVPN but couldn't get them to work with android for some reason. 12vpn work for me but are a bit more expensive. I couldn't be bothered to look around further. I hear skydur is ok and freedur are ok but not tried them on Android. Most of these vpn service providers have very good support forums and even live sales chat. Talk to them and find out what's best for your needs. Some are faster but will not always connect, some are slower but will always connect, if you need it for your PC (because your communist state doesn't like freedom of speech) then you'll probably want it for your laptop/PC too so see if the provider will give you multiple logins simultaneously or buy a nice router and set it up so the router auto connects to your vpn so all your home devices are connected (like my Wii runs the Beeb iplayer in China and I watch youtube on my phone). Options are endless.
