Hi,
I received my Xperia yesterday, but there is no actual manual in there, just a load of leaflets about the panels, multimedia, etc.
Is there supposed to be a manual in there, or is it on the disc?

I haven't opened the disk yet but the label on the disk just says wayfinder.
I also received the same leaflets that your're talking about but I tend to just download the PDF manuals from the support site these days anyway

On my P1i UIQ interface i had a icon dedicated to send SMS to a particular contact. Its was used to sms my girl. It used to be very easy avoiding the lengthy process of open messaging then write new msg then select contact etc.
Can u do that on X1?

Haha, can't argue with that, next time I'll cut open the packaging lying down, on a plastic sheet, lol

I have converted an episode of Dexter and the Simpsons to 800x480 MP4 using Movavi Video Converter 6 which i use for all my conversions for the different devices i use.
The only difference between this and my Bold settings is the ratio it still converts the files to a default setting of
Video
800x480
25fps
698kbps
Audio
AAC Profile LC
198kbps
Sample rate 48,000
The files produced using these settings give full screen video with no black bars and the quality is excellent no stutter or lag and perfectly in Sync.
Video playback and Music playback where the two areas that i was most interested in seeing how the X1 performed and IMO it performs very well indeed and i am more than satisfied with the results from both.
I really only have one thing left to do now with my X1 before it's review which is to add my Seven always on Push E-Mail. But so far the only bug is the not changing names on the shortcut buttons and the only slow thing is a Panel as it updates from the static image which suggests to me that the panels are just shortcuts and not running all the time. To be honest with SPB Shell the only panel that i find is getting any use from me is the Media panel the rest IMO are kind of pointless and just replicate what's already available.
@Masseur
I know what you mean whilst the X1 screen is nice and wide it does indeed seem not very high although it actually is as high as the Bold screen but i think due to the extra width it just looks and feels shorter.

Could you kindly confirm whether you are using coreplayer to play back video on the X1, I dont seem to get as good results as you. Have you run benchmark results on coreplayer?

I don't have an X1 (yet) but it's WM6.1 and it comes with SPB shell that lets you do this. What it does is give you a picture of your contact. Touch to call, touch and hold to get options including send SMS. It's pretty easy to do.

in fact you get a screen with 16 possible contact pictures, or just the name if you have no picture.
touch the picture or name and another screen pops up showing
the picture
a button to dial the mobile number
a button to send an SMS -> this takes you directly to writing the text message with the mobile number already filled in
a button to dial the work number
a button to dial the home number
a button to open the full contact details
the buttons only show if the appropriate number for that button has been entered into the contact details
instead of pressing the picture or name on the main screen, if you press and hold you get a popup menu that offers:-
replace
recent call
spb contacts
edit
remove

Is there a voice recognition software that lets you SMS by voice? Dictate SMS by voice and have received SMS read back to you. I thought I saw it somewhere.

I've seen software that will read your text message to you, but not any that will allow you to write the text message by voice
the voice control I have seen (the voice command on some imate and HTC models), and Microsoft voice command, is generally limited general control of the device, initiating phone calls from contact names and choosing media to play by name
