I have that tone, and can hear it quite well... A quick run-thru on Google brought some interesting info. Apparently the tone falls into the 18-20 kHz band which most adults can't hear... Interesting as well was this site,
http://www.ochenk.com/entry.php?id=63
which has samples of various frequencies. I downloaded one that i can't hear at all, except for a bit which kinda peaks in the middle of the tone. The kids in my class could hear it perfectly though, so i set it on loop and tried playing it when they became noisy... Hey presto, it works! They clammed up so fast it was stunning!!!

There's a discussion of that tone here
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=122616 and the actual tone can be downloaded from

Read an article this morning on Virgin Mobile's launch this Saturday and to be honest it doesn't seem too exciting...it will basically be a stripped down service, almost like those 'no-frills' airlines but with branded (and I suppose locked handsets). They're not saying much yet, just that there'll be some sort of tie-up with Virgin's other brands in SA like Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Active...something like get a free phone when you sign up for membership at one of their gyms.

The W300i hit the shelves in the UK today.
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=124250
Speaking of Virgin, the UK's site is currently giving £35-worth (approx R460 with today's exchange rate) of airtime away with every cellphone costing £50 (approx R665) and over.
http://www.virginmobile.com/m[....]-search?type=all-phones&page=1
Also, the ultra-basic Nokia 1101 is going for £24.99 (approx R330) and comes with £15 (approx R200) airtime thrown in. No additional 'starter packs' (LOL) to buy.
Not too shabby, even for such an el cheapo phone.
Hope Virgin SA have some excellent offers over the coming months to really start tempting people into taking the plunge with SA's newest network, and I sincerely hope they build the same reputation for excellent service in SA as they have in Pommieland.
BTW, my nephew, residing with us in the UK until December before he returns to start studying in PE, had to phone Virgin's customer care. The bloke on the other side clearly had a SA accent. Nothing new here I guess, but as they got talking, it turns out that the Virgin UK customer care call centre is based in SA! I didn't realise that...sorry if it's old news, but it was news to me.
@ da brixsta,
That aeroplane's propellor behind your g/f in the bar photo in the PNF thread, looks like it's off an old DeHavilland Tiger Moth biplane or Avro Anson, judging by the fact it seems to be a relatively small diameter,fixed-pitch 2-blade wooden item with fairly small propellor boss shaft; could fetch a pretty penny or two on eBay..although it might be a mission to er..smuggle it out of the bar unnoticed.

LOL, I'm just kidding. It's just that since I was a lighty I've always had an appreciation for '30's and 40's piston-engined aviation.

God wanqsta: You're very observant. The propeller on that plane is in a bar called 'Cafe du Sud' in Loop Street, it's a really cool spot to chill after a hard day...actually there are several cool spots around the city centre. I'll be there tonight and may enquire about the propeller.
@Gamer: Virgin is not an entirely new network, they'll simply piggyback off Cell C's network, subscribers will be on the 084 prefix.
EDIT: Peeps, where are the picture I asked for? I'm trying to brighten up the first page of this thread. So far the only picture I got was from jmash of his newborn baby.
786KBR: Where are your pics mate? I can't recall you ever posting a pic here.

LOL, one week on and the W700i has already had its first price drop at the UK's Carphonewarhouse. £10 (approx R133 at the moment) cheaper now:
