@dskeeles

remember the TyTN has a setting on how to utilize the wifi......"best battery" or "best performance". Coupled with the fact G doesnt handle interferance as well as B (try setting your router to B and see the difference) you may find that wifi reception is not as good as on a laptop or pc using the full power requirement for wifi reception/range. Im pretty sure the TyTN is defaulted to "best battery" reducing the range of the signal......just like on a nintendo DS (which has an effective wifi range of 10m)

@Libby24 (and anyone else who managed to get unlimited data on Orange).

I got my M3100 on friday; I called to send it back today - the reason? Despite going round almost every department, I couldn't sort out a sensible data plan; so I'm off to T-Mobile. The Dolphin 35 package was good and the free phone very nice, but just can't live with the stoopid data plans.

If you managed to get an U/L data plan with Orange, you can be very pleased with yourself.

Hey All, I've being reading up on this forum from since the first page, and i to has order my HTC Tytn. And i was wondering about the "Wifi - GSM" issue. because i heard that while your using Wifi, the GSM network does work. i dont have a problem with that, but i just wanna know if while your using WIFI and someone tries to call you, if it'll put the WIFI connection on hold so i can recieve the call or not. My only concern really is this issue. Someone please do check and let me know please.

Other than that, Im so psych about it,.. It just seems forever for that Fedex Truck to reach my House.

Qwinky.

Well ive set a download going over wifi and had a conversation halfway through....when i hung up the file had completed so i guess that says wifi and GSM work independantly and symultaneously. GPRS does get interrupted by the wifi as both connections are seen to lead to the internet...so obviously it chooses the wifi over gprs, but mms and video calls are still retreivable via gprs when you are using wifi.

Good choice you will be pleased.

It IS a superb handset....unfortunate that the latest ROMs are not doing it justice....if i were you i would consider flashing the ROM from the HTC branded one to an imate or dopod version....you will find it more stable and a bit quicker. Until HTC releases an updated ROM (which does look likely in the next month or so) i personaly will be sticking with the imate ROM.

Once a ROM update cures these problems it will be just a great phone to have.

Got my P990i today and I am very happy with it. I had the TYTN for 10 days in August but decided to return because for me it was slightly heavier that it actually made a difference when holding on my hand. Maybe I was just too used to the weight of the P910. The TYTN is a great phone but I thought it was more of a computer than a phone. The keyboard was great. What also I did not like was that when I was putting the phone against my ear when talkign on the phone, sometimes I would accidentally press buttons on the screen, which was a real pain. Has anybody had the same problem.

So far the P990 has given me no major problems. I am a big fan of the P series, as I have had the P800, P900, P910, and now the P990. The phone diud freeze on me once, but it was no big deal. I love having the radio. I bought it from Vodafone, but the phone does not have any branding, except for when I open the phone I see the Voda logo. Also, it seems to have the web settign already in place. But no specific Voda applications. Also the phone is unlocked. I already tried it with an Orange French SIM card.

Yer from what i remember some of the P900/910i models were not locked to an operator....even though they had been purchased through O2/Tmobile etc....

My P900 was unbranded/sim free so i would not know.

When researching p990 vs TyTn I may have overlooked some detail...

I was lead to believe that at least the p990 could be used in XP as a flash drive. I may have ASSUMED the same would be true for the TyTn as well... was kinda looking forward to getting a 2gb uSD card and scrapping the need to carry around my 1gb USB memory stick at the same time... plenty of room for all my music, a feature film or two + random files etc.

But having plugged it into a machine that doesnt have activesync, it comes up with a new "Generic NCDIS" when "advanced network functionality" is enabled in USB-PC settings and "Generic Serial" when "advanced..." is DISabled.

Either way it doesnt have a clue about it and it would seem you need a driver to access the phones memories.

If there is no way to have it work normally with no additional software, whats the minimum software/driver required to access data?

In addition, I would appreciate if someone could tell me (before I go and buy one) how a uSD card is represented in ActiveSync "explore" mode. Does it appear as another folder like "My Windows Mobile Device" amongst the other "My Documents" files? Or does it mount as a separate drive? Perhaps if it mounts as a separate drive this will work regardless of the "Generic XXXXX" not working...

Cheers

When youve got activesync working and th TyTN is hooked up via bluetooth or USB it appears as "my device" in My Computer, you can browse through as you would normally do.

Im still trying to find a way to let my TyTN access my network shares over wifi....im sure its summot im doing wrong LOL!
