Some more examples of reducing over-exposure (bleached colour) on macro
Twilight Portrait Auto ISO with Macro Focus
All auto with Macro Focus (what you would normally get without trick)
Sports mode enabled, ISO 100, Macro Focus

i think this method works best if not taken during total darkness.
because the focus assist light did not turn on.
my seiko shot was taken with enough ambient light. not total darkness.
