Like it shows on GSM Arena the 38mp images look horrid zoomed in close, smeary and blurry, noisy. But full res Pureview 5mp mode they look great

Photos and videos here

http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-lumia-1020/233015-pictures-video-taken-your-1020-a.html

In one video unboxing they showed a leaflet Nokia put in the box stating not to worry if you hear something rattling inside your 1020. It's the OIS that rattles and Nokia didn't want to have loads of complaints about it as its quite normal

The full resolution images of the 1020 are what you would normally get from 1.1 micron pixels. You should look at the Nikon D800 if you want something better at that kind of resolution. It has a full frame sensor so despite the 36Mpix count it still clocks at 4.9 microns

Its important to understand the basics of imaging

etaab ... there are plenty of N8 and 808 batteries around, I have 4.. they fit on both phones.

The 1020 doesn't even have a user replaceable battery

PS.......no it doesn't

Please read what has been said :

" Asking me to pick between an 808 and a Lumia 1020 is a very tough call. However, much as I love the venerable old N8, I'd pick the Lumia 1020 in a heartbeat"

He also states not to read too much into the sores given.

"Don't take the scores too seriously though, since any result here will depend hugely on the choice of subjects and how often (or rarely) I allowed PureView zoom at capture time. I picked the subjects almost at random but tried to include as wide a variety as possible"

Very close call in terms of IQ.. I would pick the N8 for most cases.
