There is a wizard on the cd that will tell wu he there any hard or software issues before you install xp. Download new xp drivers before you start unless you have another pc. This post was posted from a T68i

Not recommended though...

The Cool

„« Virtually crash proof.
„« Drag and Drop CD recording.
„« Remote Assistance.
„« Windows ME like networking.
„« Faster than any previously released versions of Windows.
„« Movie Maker Software.
„« Firewall Software.
„« Great Driver Support.

The Bad

„« Has to be activated every time.
„« If you buy one disk, you can only install it once.
„« If you don't sign up with the .NET service, you loose lots of the so called cool features.
„« Need a pretty fast PC to run it (600MHz Min).
„« MP3 support not in Media Player but you can purchase it from MS.
„« Media Player will only play licensed songs.

What to expect

Upgrading your present operating system (98SE/ME/2000) will cause pain to your system. I highly recommend re-formatting your PC, then installing Windows XP from scratch. When installed, you will learn to love it. It will hardly crash, unless you install really old software on it.
My Opinions

Windows XP Home & Professional are based on Windows 2000. XP is an extraordinary interface. If installed correctly, it's the best. From installation to final use, it's Microsoft treasure.
When loading the OS from scratch, it detects everything on your system. You do have to reboot several times during the installation, but you probably will not have to keep on inserting your driver CD¡¦s or discs, which means you could go to sleep & wake up in an hour without worrying!
Boot up times are amazing, in fact it boots up in about 34 seconds on a Pentium 3 700Mhz.
I highly recommend backing up your entire system and running a clean install with the XP CD. Otherwise, you're asking for trouble. This includes slow speeds, crashing, errors, etc¡K..
