for me, these days, its no longer a must
since using the diamond with its excellent virtual keyboards I really don't feel the need for anything physical, and if that makes the devices thinner then all the better!
Hi Masseur,
Well, I had put every phone under the microscope but...
I'm not the best typist in a computer, I'm atrocious on the numeric
T9 keyboards, I hate the BB style keybpards, I felt much better with the
TnTy II (Tilt) but still I tough it was deficient.
When the iPhone was announced I was hopeful but I found myself pressing
the wrong key over and over...
So If the iPhone didn't do it, what
virtual keyboard is going to do it?
I don't have the Xperia yet, but when I see the videos and the pictures and
the reviews with bigger and spaced keys and standard layout, I feel this is
my keyboard, finally.
If you ask me why the Xperia? Simple, my two most important priorities are
visuals and productivity, so the 800x480 and the keyboard are hands down
the answer. Plus I'm lucky that everything else in the Xperia is superb,
I can't see anyother phone that can surpass the Xperia today.

Finally I've got my own experia from O2. This is my first winmob phone. been using P800, P910 and P990.
surprise to see that the phone is small...smaller than P990. the screen quality and built quality are great. The phone is very fast (except when switching portrait to landscape).
I have a question. hope anybody can help me. How do I use google maps/ gps ? The phone comes with O2 panel instead of google panel.
from the manual, it seems that we can access the google maps from programs section under start menu. but there is no program called google map.
I've tried to change the O2 panel to google panel. all the links at the google panel are working except for google maps.
Where can I find this google map application ? why it is not there ? the manual says that I have to turn on the gps in the google maps application...but there is no such application.

I believe Google Maps is found in the Google Panel.

very strange, I find it almost impossible to type the wrong key due to the error correction, and everyone I know with the iphone, and those who have posted here on Esato in the iphone discussion have aclaimed the error correction on the keyboard as near perfect

@MyP910
It should be somewhere in one of the CD's or, if preinstalled, in 'Programs' or a subfolder of it (e.g. Tools or whatever)
Or else point your phone's web browser to m.google.com where you will be able to get the latest version of google's mobile applications.

Chris thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, it was really useful to hear that Wi-Fi was unusable on VF branded devices...sounds like VF firmware strikes again!
As you are another VF user did you also notice that there is no English version of WAYFINDER on the enclosed disk? Wondering if this was just a VF issue or just a me issue. (I did download it from a website however...www.getwf.com for those that may have the same problem)
Lastly and most importantly to me thought is the signal, can you or anybody else report on the reception level. My own experience is that in a poor reception area I was getting 2 bars on my p1 whilst getting nothing at all on the X1. I have 7 more days to decide to keep it or not so I am really interested to know if anybody else has an issue with this. I don't want my desire to like and want this phone to blind me to a short coming such as bad reception. I work for the emergency services and at times it is critical I have a phone that gets good reception.
Thanks JD
Hi JD,
I didn't open the wayfinder CD, I always leave those kind of things unpacked and in the box, just in case I want to sell/return it. I always download stuff from the web, like yourself.
Also I have loads of USB cables from other devices, so in my box - it's just like new, lol.
The reception level is an age old problem, with vodafone anyway. It's all to do with the 3G network. By default all calls "piggy-back" off the 3G network. To test it was the same with this phone, I've just tested it by switching the network to "GMS", the signal bars improved immediately to full bars

.
So if you don't need the 3G network, switch it off by doing the following:
1. click on the signal bars at the top of the page
2. clck on the "Settings" option
3. goto the "Band" tab at the bottom of the screen
4. select "GSM" rather than "Auto"
5. click "ok" at top of screen, and that's it
BTW - a warning message will be displayed, about limiting your available services, etc... Dismiss that.
Only problem I've seen so far, is the Opera Browser wants the 3G network on to work for some reason... haven't got time to look into it now, but will report back later, if someone else doesn't.
The IE browser still works fine, so it must be a setting somewhere.
Sooo put your Xperia box in loft, where mine is, as you won't be returning it just yet

.
Chris
p.s. install TouchFlow, and you'll not look back, trust me
@ the mont
Chris once again thanks for taking the time to reply. I am spending another week in the bad signal area so I will try out your fix and hopefully get better signal.
Installing touch flow now....
Cheers
JD
