Which leads me to the question, why is it that some years ago, before the proliferation of illegal firearms, things like rape and child molestation were mostly unheard of, and were dealt with summarily by the community... I often hear older folk speaking of a time when gangsters would stop beating each other up when an elderly person walked by, then recommence once the person had disappeared from view. Now that was respect... Or the fact that crimes in a neighbourhood were seldomly committed by the residents of that hood, whereas today it's really a free-for-all...
Sad but true, drastic measures are required in order to bring about peace. I once happened across a site which was racist thru and thru, the South African thread in particular being most vitriolic. Lo and behold, there were South Africans of various shades posting there, and saying the most God-awful things i've ever heard. Heaven forbid that people such as those should ever get to run the country...

There has been break-ins at my house 2 or 3 times the last year, and every time it has been black teens or older guys. Two of the times they ended up in the room where one of my sisters were sleeping. The first time my sister (the older of the two) was approached by the guy, he wanted to unzip her top, then she sat up. I think that when he saw how tall she is, he got such a fright, probably thinkking that he does not want to meet anything male related to her...
Second time my little sister was sleeping there. She is tiny compared to us. She screamed so loud they got a fright, unless me with my kierie freaked them out.
I don't really care for possesions, but the safety of my family is more important. If anyone ever gets killed breaking in at my place, It would be because they touched someone close to me.
I am getting tired of crime. Unfortunately crime pays here, and unless the government does something, crime no matter out of what motivation, will continue paying. The on;y way to change that is cops. Paying them well, and increasing their numbers drastically. I must say, I do fear for tourists in South Africa 2010. How many people will lose relatives due to them being rich foreigners at the world cup? And for what? A wallet of money? A camera?

I hear you guys talking all about the elements of crime, but everyone seem to be missing on point. Our government or should I sad justice system is too kind on criminals. The justice system really need to be really rough on this animals.Come to think of it,a couple of days ago 4 cops were slained, killers caught(good). But how do these ruthless killers live in prison, they get it good.Breakfast, lunch, supper and a roof over their heard. Not to mention the TVs and all the good things they get in there. It's really sad because there are people out the who aren't law breakers(law abiding Citizens) who go the whole day without food in their stomach. When the sun sets some don't even know where to get shelter for the chilly night. This is so sickening, because the criminal are living it up in there, and these good people get nothing out here.Really our justice system needs to be quite harsh on the law breakers. If I was president l'd hang these motherfuckers, especially those who rape & kill our fellow South Africans.
About 2 years ago there was a really bad gang of thugs where I live and the worst crime they comitted,They killed an innocent girl on her way home from work(They raped her, ripped her stomach open and romeved her eyes).Just picture this. They got caught and put behind bars, but they are still breathing, their stomachs are always full from our Tax money.Don't you thinlk these kind of animals deserve to be killed too?
The whole thing needs some really harsh laws believe me.

We can all see that the comunities are sick of crime as well,But when they take the law in their hands, police protects the criminals.
Don't get me wrong the police are doing the job we can't blame them. The law needs to be blamed because it protects the criminals.I know that taking the law into you hands is wrong, but there are times when you really see that we must do it ourselves. But the law is the law and until they change it to be hard on criminals, the crime rate will always continue to go up!

Sadly, criminals have more rights than 100% law obiding citizens. In this sense I like how some countries operate: you steal, they cut off fingers or your hand. If you rape, they cut off your....
Anyway, people need to find worth in their fellow man. Cultural elements break down society. What gets portrayed in our media these days? Rap is about sex and violence. Then these same people fight for justice. What is that? People are stupid: they do stupid things. Like the kids who killed a man because they were bored and decided to go play their favourite game in real life..GTA 3...
If you find worth in people, all your choices come filtered through that.

Taken with the Nokia 3230 today at the famous Thorpe Park amusement/theme park in the county of Surrey, south of Greater London and next to the county of Kent.
The pic is of part of 'Colossus', which is in the record books for having the most inversions, ten in total.
BTW, great to see the forum pass the 6000-post mark today. Keep it up, guys.

Gonna be some sweet sounds, coming down
On the night shift...
I really need to experience many of the Long Street attractions next year when we're in SA again for another month-long holiday stint; that freelance photographer friend of mine, Marc, frequently relishes in all that Long Street has to offer as well.
