I'll get one too,

The only downside i see is the internal memory. This can be resolved if SE would allow u to beam to the memory card immediatelly.

I already have 3 duo cards (64MB, 512 MB, 1 GB) and they should be more than enough for me till the post p990 phone release.

Screen size is slightly bigger than the previous phone, which was already just fine.

The camera quality is expected to be as good as the k750i, increasing the number of mega pixles is pointless, it's only gonna increase the price and it isn't really of any use for a smart phone.

I won't jump in immediatelly and buy it, i'll watch how software support goes first.

Im going to ask a silly question...but just need confirmation!!!

Seeing as the OS is changing, I assume all the P900 software that I own will become redundant, how about the all mp4 movies?? will they still play on the P990?

IMHO UK Orange subscribers will have to wait a long time before we get to see this handset!!!

Mad_Bob,

The Pxx0 NEVER HAD 16:9 widescreen!!!
What are you talking about?
(don't you have anything better to complain about?)

Simple math:
If the Pxx0 had 16:9 widescreen, the resolution would be 320x180 !!!
(it was 320x208!)

The new screen is 320x240, so the same exac movies you use are fine with top and bottom black bars.

Umm, a little over the top maybe, you could just quote my mistake without the arsyness of "don't you have anything better to complain about".

The fact it is not exactly 16:9, the aspect was still more widescreen than not. My point was just that it had lost the widescreen feel which was better for films.

And no I don't have anything better to complain about, because as far as Im concerned they are the only faults I could find about the phone.

The screen size (even though it has been pointed out that its very similar size as older P series) still could have been bigger, the phone is physically the same size as P910 so i expected a larger screen size to phone ratio.
what i would love is JUST a screen dominating the front & a very complex multi function jog dial with all keyboards in touchscreen full size overlay.

but in the new year i may well buy a P990 & love it.

Mad-bob, i fully agree, the phone appears to have lost its wide screen look but maybe in use this assumption will not be a reality SE must have donne it for more correct 3G video call compatability.

depends entirely on price and what offers are available on it. But seeing as how im on orange UK, it probably wont be out till months later than the sim-free version, will have horrible graphics added by orange and locked so you cant change them, and thats if they actually offer it at all.

Price is alleged to be same if not cheaper than P910 is currently. Original pics were leaked from an Orange presentation so they maybe one of the first to release in UK, after they screwed with the software.

What Orange UK did to the P910, and the release delay that caused, *plus* having to put up with a locked phone, have truly convinced me that I'll never buy an Orange-branded phone again. It's SIM-free only for me from now on....

Cool, Im glad Im not the only one with this view.

It won't stop me getting it though, because as i said, that and the 5 way JD are the only faults and thats being picky. I want it for all the other things it has got.

there won't be a software available for some time, since p990 doesn't support P900/P910 software.

Can anyone confirm this? That may cause me a small problem :/

Thats correct, it will not be backward compatible

Not immediately, no, though this article referenced on another thread:

http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/6217.html

implies that the re-engineering of the earlier software is not that big a job. Given that, and taking into consideration the fact that the P990's not actually out till next year, why should we worry there'll be no software ready for it?

And more to the point, should that matter anyway? We'll still be able to use the phone straight out of the box!
